Apple vs google maps?

Hey all, quick question for anyone using an iPhone with their BYD.

I’m using Google Maps and it only shows on the main centre screen - nothing comes up on the driver display. With my old Android phone, Google Maps showed on both screens, so I’m trying to work out if this is:

a BYD limitation
a Google Maps limitation on iOS
or just something I haven’t enabled correctly

Before anyone says “just use Apple Maps”: I know that’s the default option, but Google Maps is what most Aussies use, and it worked perfectly on my previous setup. So I’m hoping this isn’t an oversight on BYD’s side.

If anyone has managed to get Google Maps showing on the dash cluster with an iPhone, let me know what setting I’m missing.

Cheers

Sealion 7 Excellence arrived (UK)

Annoyingly, they were inflexible on the delivery date and I'm actually away so my wife had to receive it! Can't wait to get home on Saturday and take her out

Google Maps battery estimation

Does anyone know how the in built Google Maps calculates remaining battery?

I’m finding it constantly under estimating remaining battery which then throws up lots of warnings about arriving with -10% battery.

Have attached a rubbish picture but the drivers display shows 78% battery and Google Maps is showing I’m about to use 55% to do a 50km journey and end at 23%

For reference my current average is around 17kw/100km

Edit to add it’s an Atto 3 Evo Design. Around 3 weeks old and around 2300km so far.

Never received the QR code to connect BYD app

I got my BYD Atto 3 about a month ago and I’m trying to connect the mobile app to the car.

The dealer told me the QR code should be available by the end of the following week, but that was about two weeks ago. Since then they’ve just been saying they’ll “look into it” without giving any updates.

Is there any way to manually get the QR code to appear in the car menu? I am honestly fed up.

Thanks!

Ground clearance and UK speed bumps – Anyone scraped the front lip yet?

One year in, and this is still my biggest daily anxiety with the Seal: the front overhang and ground clearance.

Compared to my previous car, the Seal sits quite low. Every time I tackle those aggressive, square speed bumps in London boroughs or encounter uneven country lanes in the countryside, I hold my breath. I’ve had a couple of nasty "crunch" sounds from the plastic air deflector underneath when moving at what felt like a snail's pace.

Are you guys diagonal-driving over speed humps, or has the suspension softened up enough over the year to make it less of an issue? Just want to check if I need to be even more paranoid than I already am!

Planning to buy BYD Seal 5

Is the SEAL 5 DM-I PHEV a good first car for a family of 3? Does it have level 2 semi autonomous driving (ADAS)? How is its comfortability?

Why is the stock tanking?

It seems like lots of good news are published about BYD. Rising international sales, charging technology advancements, etc. But the stock is only going down. Why?

Atto2 Comfort

Enabling ADB

I’m having trouble enabling ADB after downgrading my Dolphin to version 2503.

From what I remember, you’re supposed to go into Settings, tap the software version multiple times, and then you get access to the menu where you can enable ADB or grant ADB permissions for certain apps/install APKs.

But this time, that menu never appears. I also tried the usual *#9xxxx dialer method, but instead of opening the menu it just shows a QR code even after downgrading.

Mistakenly peeled of my infotainment screen anti glare layer

Hi I just got my BYD Seal 2024 second hand and I foolishly peeled off the second plastic layer (not the one labelled telling me to remove it).

I was trying to install a tempered glass screen protector on top of it and idiotic me thought that the anti glare film layer was another factory installed screen protector that I had to remove prior to installing the tempered glass. I should have read some of the posts here advising against it.

Is there any way to hide it? Or will BYD cover it under its warranty?

Just thought I’d share my experience.

So I thought I’d come here to share my experience after owning a BYD Seal U DM-i.

Back in October, I went to my local BYD dealer to purchase a Seal U DM-i. I test drove the car and initially thought it was brilliant. The amount of technology you get for the price is genuinely impressive, and I took delivery within the same month.

However, after around 4–6 weeks of ownership I started noticing a few things:

  1. Very loud/rattly suspension noise
  2. Misaligned body panels
  3. Small paint imperfections on the bonnet
  4. “No video signal detected” occasionally appearing when selecting reverse

At the time, I decided to monitor these issues and planned to raise them together at the dealer after a few months of ownership rather than making constant trips back and forth.

Unfortunately, the biggest issue was still to come.

In late December, I noticed a loud rattling/clunking noise from what sounded like the driver-side wheel/drivetrain area whenever turning right under load. I immediately contacted the dealer to get the car booked in.

The vehicle was initially booked in just before Christmas, but the dealer then contacted me to say their BYD warranty/computer system was down and they could no longer look at the vehicle on the agreed date.

Something about this didn’t sound right to me, so after several phone calls I ended up driving to the dealership directly.

A mechanic came out for a road test with me, confirmed he could hear the noise, and after inspecting the vehicle advised there was slight play in the driveshaft and that it required replacement.

The issue was that, due to the “system being down”, they still couldn’t process the warranty repair. So I was left driving a brand-new car with a known mechanical fault over the Christmas period for over 200 miles.

The vehicle was eventually booked in for repair on 13 January 2026.

I was given a courtesy car and later informed the repair would take longer because the required part was delayed. Interestingly, I was now being told the vehicle was not safe to drive — despite previously being told it was safe over Christmas.

The dealer had the car for 10 days to replace the driveshaft. I collected it again on 23 January 2026.

Three or four days later, the exact same noise returned.

Back to the dealer it went.

After another lengthy period, I was informed BYD technical had become involved and the conclusion was that the measurement between the engine and engine mount was “out of tolerance”, requiring an adjustment to reposition the engine.

Eventually I received a call explaining that:
- an adjustment had been carried out
- a new engine mount had been ordered
- but the part was on back order with no ETA

I was then asked if I wanted to collect the vehicle while waiting for the replacement part.

At this stage I had already lost confidence in the car, so I asked what the expected timeframe was. The response I received was effectively: “There is no timeframe — it will arrive whenever the part becomes available.”

Weeks then passed with no progress.

Eventually, after discussions around rejection through the finance company, the dealership wanted the courtesy car returned and advised: “The adjustment has been carried out and we are confident the vehicle can be driven without the noise being present.”

I confirmed in writing that taking the vehicle back would not affect my rights should I later pursue rejection.

I then collected the car.

The very first left-hand turn I made, the exact same noise happened again.

I informed the dealer immediately and was essentially told: “The part is on back order — there is nothing further we can currently do.”

At that point I’d had enough.

In total, the dealership had my car for 41 days, repairs had already failed, the same fault persisted, and there was still no confirmed timeframe for resolution on a brand-new vehicle.

I escalated the matter through Santander Consumer Finance. An independent inspection was carried out and the complaint was upheld under the Consumer Rights Act due to failed repairs.

The vehicle has now been collected and the finance agreement unwound.

Overall, I’m massively disappointed — not just from a vehicle quality perspective, but from an aftersales/customer service perspective too.

I genuinely wanted to like the car because on paper it offers fantastic value for money, but my ownership experience ended up being the worst I’ve ever had with a new vehicle.

Hopefully this helps anyone researching the Seal U DM-i or dealing with similar issues.
