Couldn’t Resist

On our travels we found a rope swing in Uninajab, Mexico… and I couldn’t resist. 🐒💦
Turns out my inner 10-year-old, raised on Tarzan films, is still very much alive! 😂

What a Park up!

How close is too close to boondock? (Mount Popocatépetl, Mexico)

We recently parked up right on the exclusion zone near Mount Popocatépetl in Mexico. It sure was amazing to watch him breathe! It gave us a serious taste of wild camping. Oh, and I also hope you enjoy the daytime Timelaspe & the photo that I took at night of the mountain, which I took with my iPhone. Enjoy!

What a Ride!

Over the last 4 years, we’ve travelled through 26 countries across 4 continents in our motorhome Walter—from Europe to Morocco, across to Turkey, and all the way from the UK to the USA, Canada, and Baja Mexico.
This short shows our full journey route… and trust us, it’s been one epic ride.

Dometic Fridge!

We’ve been battling with our fridge recently. No matter what we tried, it just wouldn’t get below 11c . Oddly enough, the little freezer compartment was still making ice… but the main fridge just wasn’t cold enough.

Over time we have added a rechargeable USB fan inside the fridge which helps circulate air, plus two computer fans on the upper outside vent to help pull the hot air away. I have cleaned the burner jet, checked the baffle in the exhaust chimney and, in a moment of desperation, even removed the inside cooling fins and re-applied thermal paste behind them. Still only around 11c (52F) at night at best.

Then good old AI suggested the propane regulator could be the culprit. Apparently even a slight drop in gas pressure can really affect the tiny fridge flame, despite the hob, grill and oven all working perfectly fine.

The tricky bit is that here in Mexico and the States, regulators are usually 26 mbar, so finding the correct one wasn’t easy. In the end we shipped a new UK 30 mbar regulator over to Mexico via FedEx as a last-ditch attempt. I fitted it yesterday… and would you believe it — after 24 hours the fridge was down to 7c (44F)

When I removed the old regulator there was quite a bit of oily residue inside it. Who knew that those regulators have a 10 year life span ours was definately due for retirement!

Our 23-year-old fridge appears to have come back to life… although to be fair, it’s fighting a brave battle in 33°C heat most days, currently in Mexico 😅🇬🇧🇲🇽

Park4Night

One of the things we really love about Park4Night is the way it helps the motorhome community grow.

Over the last year, we’ve added more than 100 locations across the USA, Canada and beyond. Whether it’s a quiet overnight stop, a scenic viewpoint or a handy place to park while exploring, it’s nice to know that other travellers might find them useful too.

What makes it even more rewarding is that when someone stays at a place you’ve added and leaves a comment, Park4Night sends an email notification. It’s a bit like getting a postcard from travellers following in your tyre tracks! 🚐

Recently we’ve had a flurry of notifications coming through, which suggests there are quite a few motorhomers heading west from the East Coast. It’s great to see these places being used and enjoyed by others.

For us, that’s what the motorhome community is all about – sharing information, helping each other out, and making travel a little easier for the next person.

Safe travels everyone, and if you’ve used one of our Park4Night spots, we’d love to hear where you’re heading next!

Little things

When you live full-time on the road, it’s often the little things that make the biggest difference.

Today it was finally time to replace our old, worn-out step covers. We couldn’t source them anywhere in the States or Mexico, so they had to come all the way from our home back in the UK, bundled into a FedEx package along with a few other little goodies.

Honestly, it’s amazing how something so small can make Walter feel fresh again. 😀
Funny how the tiny jobs always end up being the most satisfying!
