Starting over...

Hey Ad world!

I hope you're reading this in good spirits, our industry considered.

I'm a 31 year old 🇿🇦 Mid-Snr Creative Strategist with a bit of a polymath's experience, my last two years have leaned more into product design and strategy as opposed to the traditional advertising.

I got laid off due to forces outside my control last month and it feels like I'm at an impasse. Not really sure how to get things going again. The circlejerking is something that has me disillusioned and being on the outside looking in, I've fallen out of love with the game - something I think comes across in my applications which is probably why I'm not getting any responses.

This isn't a pity post, nor do I think its a "please help me find work", I guess I just needed a place to vent out these feelings and maybe gain some perspective.

Any labour lawyers (or someone knowledgeable enough) in the house?

Long story short, I got offered an MSA at work and I'm trying to see if there's merit in trying to get the value increased from it.

After a two way grievance issue, they are placing their bet on the newer hirer which is fair game and their right. I don't mind taking the money, it just feels like I'm being a little lowballed considering the work and quiet value I've helped create which my colleagues can attest to.

It's a bit of a quick fire situation I have so any and all help will be valuable.

Overthinking my Visa application, any advice?

Morning morning.

I hope you're all well, really do hope that.

I'm set to do my first Visa-required international trip (UK) and I think I may be grossly overthinking this entire process.

I've gone to VFS Global site and downloaded all their dividers, I'm just a little stuck on what all I need.

I've got more than enough money across two banks to sustain myself but now I'm wondering things like is it easier to provide proof of both accounts or move all the money into one account. (Immediately followed up by "won't a single large transfer raise flags?") and so on it goes to the point where, should I ask my employer for a special "Wanderer works here" letter or does my recent payslip and my initial offer letter do the trick.

Any and all advice is welcomed at this point as I've become somewhat paralysed by all this and flights are costing an extra grand that could have gone toward good (relative) food or experiences every day.

Danko means thanks

30M [4F/A] looking for friends / maybe a partner

Hiiiiii.... so I'm 30,

I'm a digital strategist, but my path has been anything but straight. I studied mechanical engineering at university, worked in art direction, and somehow ended up in strategy. Writing it out like this, it actually does make sense.

I enjoy figuring out how things work, whether it's people, businesses, or the systems we build around ourselves.

I'm the type of person who asks "why?" a little too often. Friends have called me a philosopher, mostly because I'll happily disappear down a rabbit hole about human behavior, society, or some random idea that popped into my head at 2 a.m. My humor is dry, my wit occasionally catches people off guard, and I care a lot more about social issues than my laid-back personality initially lets on.

Physically, I'm 172 cm, athletic enough to know I should get back into the routine I've been neglecting, and I have one tattoo. I'm hoping to meet someone who enjoys being outdoors because having a hiking partner or someone to convince me that an early morning walk is a good idea wouldn't hurt.

Outside of work, I've collected more hobbies than I've managed to keep up with. Gaming, shonen and seinen anime, videography, high-level doodling, hiking, football, and pretty much any sport where people are competing with everything they've got. Music is a constant, and lately I've been telling myself it's time to finally commit to the gym instead of just talking about it. I also genuinely enjoy consulting and helping people think through problems. One day I'll probably stop overthinking it and turn that into something bigger.

I'm not looking to rush into anything serious. I'd rather meet someone, have great conversations, laugh a lot, and see where things naturally go. Real connections tend to grow better without a deadline attached.

As for the person I'd love to meet: someone open-minded, kind, and curious. Someone who gets excited about trying new things, can appreciate a good conversation just as much as comfortable silence, and doesn't mind a little dry humor. Shared hobbies are a bonus, but shared curiosity matters more. If your ideal first date is grabbing coffee or ice cream before wandering through a park, checking out a bookstore, or ending up near a roller coaster instead of sitting across from each other in a formal restaurant, we'll probably get along.

Race has never been something I've treated as a deciding factor, and I hope you don't either. I'm Black, if that matters to you, but I'd rather be known for how I think, how I treat people, and the kind of conversations we have.

If any of this sounds like someone you'd enjoy getting to know, I'd love to hear your story too.
