This bunker was built in secrecy in the 1950s as the Belgian army's last fallback base in case of a Soviet invasion. It's still almost entirely intact.

The remains of the L30 Zeppelin, one of Germany's most successful WWI airships, preserved in Belgium

On this day in 1914, Germany invaded Belgium, beginning the Battle of Liège. During the night of 5–6 August, a German Zeppelin (not the L30) carried out the first air attack on a European city, bombing Liège.

211 years ago today, Napoleon fought his last battle a few kilometers from Brussels. Here's a 19th century lithograph of the monument built to commemorate it.

This lithograph shows the Lion's Mound shortly after it was built on the battlefield, where it still stands today as a memorial to the battle. (More info in comments)
