Seems like this may be the only place in the world I can have multiple varieties from Annona in the ground - those final few pictures are sugar apples, Annona Squamosa!

I have had several asimina triloba break dormancy here, and the factor seems to be water, not heat or sun. The first tree is one I scored online from Lowe’s or Home Depot (I don’t remember which). It went in the ground in March of last year.
The other few are bareroot seedlings from KY iirc. They all broke dormancy super late, well into spring here in central Florida. We began warming easily in March - the latest broke in mid May. The only
Difference amongst the plants was water received. Those that got good hard soaks broke much faster than those that didn’t or were in drier spots.
Also, there is a vertebrate present here that is eating the leaves. I haven’t figured out which, but many of the bareroots that broke were stripped of foliage quickly. The few pictured here are the outliers.
Something REALLY enjoys them - and it has to be something present in Ocala ntl forest.
They seem unaffected by insect pest pressure for now. The humidity nor heat seems to be a problem. They are also well shaded through parts of the day.
Just a few observations as I’m on the extreme southern edge of where they can be grown.
