I built a free NBA trivia game where you claim a hex board by naming players — would love brutal feedback

Game Title: HexHoops

Playable Link: hexhoops.com

Platform: Browser (no download, no signup)

Description: HexHoops is basketball trivia played on a hex board. Every hex is tagged with a category — "Lakers," "All-Star," "25+ PPG," that kind of thing — and you claim a tile by typing a player who fits it. Each player is a one-shot: use them once and they're gone for good, but if you whiff, they're still up for grabs later. The real hook is the spillover mechanic — a correct answer claims every neighboring hex that player also qualifies for, auto-claiming empty tiles and stealing/flipping your opponent's. One sharp pick can swing control of the whole board in a single move. Own the most tiles when the board fills up and you win. There are three modes: Pass & Play for couch games with no clock, Challenge a Friend for online matches with a 4-letter room code, and Solo Run, where you try to clear the board using the fewest players possible. I built this because it felt like the perfect offseason project — no games to watch, just free-agency rumors on loop, so I wanted something for people to actually do with their basketball knowledge instead.

Free to Play Status:

  • Free to play

Involvement: Solo developer — built, designed, and coded the whole thing myself. Actively looking for feedback and planning to keep adding features/games.
