25 Meter Ranges Test - RAF Halton

Hi all — I’m joining RAF Halton soon and I’ve heard many people fail the 25 m range because they’re not on the point of aim. On the day we may get SA80s with or without SUSAT that haven’t been zeroed. Can anyone who’s been through this share what helped you pass the 25 m practical? Specifically: how did you make sure you were on the point of aim, and how did you cope with rifles/sights that weren’t zeroed? Any practical tips or things to check/ask instructors on the day would be gratefully received. Thanks!

New RAF recruit — looking for CBRN tips (most worried about failing)

Hi all — I’m a new RAF recruit starting training soon and I’ve heard a lot of people struggle with the CBRN station. Has anyone been through it? I’d really appreciate practical tips on what to expect, how it’s assessed, and anything that helped you pass (drills, breathing, kit, timing). Thanks in advance — happy to DM for more detail.

Seeking Advice on Divorce in the UK

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice regarding my cousin's situation. He has been married for over 20 years and has children with his wife here in the UK. However, he is unhappy in the marriage and has developed feelings for someone else.

Here are some questions we have:

  1. What will happen to the children? What are the legal implications regarding custody and support?
  2. What will happen to their house? How is property divided in a divorce?
  3. How much does the divorce process cost? What are the potential legal fees involved?
  4. What are the steps in the divorce process in the UK? Are there specific requirements he needs to fulfill?
  5. If my cousin wants a divorce but his wife does not agree, what options does he have? Can he still proceed with the divorce?
  6. How long does the divorce process typically take? What is the timeline like for all of this?

Any insights or experiences you can share would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Has anyone just completed a DLE course before RAF Halton? Need advice

Hi all — has anyone recently completed a Defence Learning Environment (DLE) course before going to RAF Halton? After some struggle, I managed to view my DLE application details in Defence Gateway (my old British Army login caused some confusion), but my dashboard still shows an old certificate. Under Mandatory Training, I can also see Royal Navy and Leadership courses — not sure if those apply to me.

Can anyone tell me:
- Which specific DLE course(s) I need to finish to get the correct certificate before arriving at RAF Halton?
- If the course I need is different from what is available in the DLE, where can I find the right course(s)?

I’m heading to RAF Halton soon, so any quick guidance would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Questions for current or recent RAF Halton recruits — haircuts, SFA and schooling

Hi — I have two quick questions for anyone at RAF Halton or who has recently completed BRTC:

  1. If I cut my hair before arriving at RAF Halton, will I need to get it cut again at Halton before BRTC starts?
  2. When can I apply for SFA (Service Family Accommodation), education allowance, and school placements for my children? Any tips or timelines would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance — I'm due to start soon and want to get these sorted.

Will RAF Halton staff meet recruits at Aylesbury train station before arrival?

Hi — I'm due to arrive at Aylesbury Train Station by train for intake at RAF Halton. Do RAF Halton staff usually meet and collect recruits at Aylesbury Train Station, or should I make my own way to RAF Halton by cab or Uber? If they do, what time/where do they meet, how will I recognise them, and is there a contact number if my train is delayed? Thanks — any recent experiences welcome.

Do I need Foundation Maths & English at RAF Halton with MBA (HR) + GCSEs?

Hi everyone — I’m preparing to apply for the HR People Specialist role and have a quick question about training requirements.I completed an MBA in Human Resources from a UK university and also hold GCSEs in Maths and English. When I attend Basic Recruit Training at RAF Halton, will I still be required to complete the Foundation Maths and English courses, or do my existing qualifications typically exempt me? Any experiences or official guidance on this would be greatly appreciated — thanks!

Posted to RAF Halton — heading to Phase 2 HR People Specialist at Worthy Down — where might I be posted after Phase 2?

Hi all — Just curious after finishing RAF Halton and will be attending Phase 2 (HR People Specialist) at Worthy Down. If you’ve done Phase 2 there, could you share which Area or unit you were posted to for your 3-year assignment after completing Phase 2? Any insight on likely locations, typical roles, or tips about Worthy Down/transitioning to the posting would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Mature entrant (40+) seeking advice/experiences at the RAF Halton BRTC

Hi everyone — I start RAF Halton BRTC soon. I’m a mature entrant (over 40), and I know many recruits will be much younger, including under‑18s. I’m friendly and respectful with people of all ages, but I’d like to hear from anyone who was an older recruit or who’s served/been at RAF Halton: how did you cope with the age mix during the 12 weeks? Any tips on fitting in, setting appropriate boundaries, avoiding awkwardness, and staying positive/energised? Also, any practical advice for life at Halton (rooms, kit, fitness pacing, downtime) would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Received Email from RAF Recruiter: What Does This Mean?

Hi everyone,

I recently received an email from my RAF recruiter stating:

"You have been added to the BRTC queue for a date - please wait out to hear for a date to start."

I'm not entirely sure what this means or how long I might have to wait for further information. Has anyone else received a similar email? If so, could you share your experiences or any insights on what to expect next?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Completed RAF Recruitment Process - Questions About Next Steps

Hi everyone,

I’m thrilled to share that I have completed all the RAF recruitment processes, and my recruiter mentioned that I'm now on the waiting list for Basic Training at Halton.

I have a few questions:

  1. When can I expect to sign my contract and receive my MOD90 card?
  2. How long might I have to wait before starting Basic Training at RAF Halton?
  3. Will I receive my uniforms prior to training?
  4. Do I need to return to the RAF Recruitment Office, or will I go directly to RAF Halton for the training?

Any advice or experiences you can share would be incredibly helpful! Thank you!
