What’s everyone’s Thursday spray ?
I’ve gone for another discontinued flanker of one of my all time favourites - this time it’s the Cologne version which is basically just a less spicy and more citrus forward version of the original.
Received my bottle of the new IA release today, so it’s had a full day of wear and a little time to give initial thoughts.
Overall it’s a warmer weather Pine forward scent - not too dissimilar to another IA release -Cape Heartache- but without the strange yet addictive strawberry note that is in that one ( nor the Vanilla )
I don’t own a bottle of Cape Heartache but do really enjoy that one so I’m not too unhappy about the slight similarities.
Having said that, on its own merits the Pine in this one feels very sappy, and the moss note also is definitely on the sweeter/lighter side and not a big dark dank oakmoss.
So far not really picking up too much on the Petrichor aspect, there’s a hint but it’s not coming through as damp or overly earthy as I’d expect.
Has a similar feel to something that Pineward might release as a Spring or Summer release, as it sits on the fresher side of the scale as far an a Pine/Fir/Moss frag goes.
Will need to give it another wear on a warmer day to see how it behaves but so far I’m liking it.
It is a good example of the notes making your nose expect it to smell a certain way, but it actually going another upon spraying.
I thought the Pine,Oakmoss and Cedar would drive it further down a darker, damper more mysterious path but that’s not the case at all.

Anything with Oakmoss, fern and petrichor will get my attention.
Seems to be a limited edition tie-in with an upcoming movie.
Anyone have anything on their radar they’ve heard about that’s upcoming and looking forward to?
A few things that piqued my interest in particular :
Heeley - Chiris. An amber leather Iris that looks like it could be great, although I’m biased as they’re one of my favourite brands.
Amouage - Myths Man 2026. I read somewhere a month or two ago that this was getting a re-release. One of Amouage’s stranger offerings from the past but a fantastic frag that I regret not getting at the time.
Dior - Recreations of multiple classics. Apparently MFK is planning on releasing over a dozen classics including Jules ( the one I’m most curious about ) and Dune.
Supposedly to be crafted as close as possible to the originals.
Hoping that if this last series in particular is a success it will start a trend of other designers bringing back faithful recreations some of those lost treasures of the past that are way too expensive on the second hand market.
Rive Gauche Pour Homme from YSL, Derby from Guerlain and Nobile from Gucci all spring to mind ( might as well dream big !)
Another from the long list of things that should never have been discontinued, today’s is the 1990’s iteration of Devin Country from Aramis.
Green Leather Chypre with prominent Galbanum and Leather and the usual suspects ( e.g pretty much every note as with most big 80’s/90’s Chypres)
Despite only being an EDC it goes very nicely for most of the day and is a beautiful wear, develops nicely too and settles eventually to a smooth leathery Oakmoss.

My one big fragrance splurge for the year just arrived and it’s a beauty, took a month to get here but well worth the wait.
Joyeux is a bit of a throwback to the big aromatic fougeres of the 80’s and 90’s - it’s quite dry with some resinous herbs and a beautiful long finish of woods, leather, vetiver and patchouli. Clary Sage is quite prominent as it progresses and gives it a slightly resinous green herbal mid which ticks all the boxes for me.
It has two extractions of Lavender at the top and middle , but for anyone averse to that really purple, almost wet style of lavender needn’t worry as this is quite dry and dusty and comes off fantastic among the other notes.
I’m not generally concerned about huge longevity with my fragrances, but this one does have serious staying power. A couple of sprays will sit nicely all day and still be noticeable on the skin late at night.
I wish there were more brands willing to dip back into the styles of yesterdays fragrances like this.
Lovely work from Sultan Pasha and likely my best find this year.
After getting over the shock of it being September so suddenly, decided to test out a sample of Bruma today.
Very pleasant, but it won’t decide whether it’s a peppery Iris, a powdery Violet or a floral Galbanum.
All of those options are very enjoyable, will have to test it out further though.
Still yet to purchase anything from Trudon, despite being very impressed with everything sampled from the so far.
Maybe Carmen will be the eventual purchase of a full bottle as it has that big vintage Chypre style kick that I’m always chasing.
What’s everyone wearing today ?
Maxim’s Pour Homme today , a brilliant little vintage chypre from the late 80’s by Dominique Ropion.
Not too far from something like a slightly softer Antaeus or Puig’s Sybaris.
Being an old bottle it’s missing a little off the top notes but the leather, patchouli, oakmoss and woods more than make up for it.
Anybody in the market for some Salvang or Silver Bund land ? 😂

Hybrid SOTD and mini review of some Pineward prototypes - Today’s sample is Riparian which is a beautiful cold and airy light green. Would be great in the warmer months as it has a dewy petrichor accord and a light mossy finish.
Really hope this one gets a full release as it’d definitely be a purchase for me.
Second favourite was Rivendale, a light fruity ( rhubarb) and pine. Slightly resinous without going too far into dark pitch territory and there’s a slight earthiness maybe from the fall leaves note.
Haven’t mentioned the other 4 samples as they’ve only been given a cursory sniff and only the above 2 really stood out.
Pretty sure the whole collection of 6 is aimed towards Summer as they’re all on the lighter side with green elements.
Wondering if anyone has tried this - being a big powerhouse style fougere it looks right up my alley but samples are hard to come by here.
Very tempted to just blind buy it but these style of fragrances are very hit or miss…
Received my bottle of Epichron Twin Peaks today , a fantastic dry, smoky black tea (Lapsang Souchong) with some woods and vetiver at the base.
Wanted to give a big recommendation for Sweet Fern at Ballarat, Carlyn always goes the extra mile with some nice wrapping, hand written note and in this case heaps of samples ( 6 prototypes from Pineward and 3 from Kintsugi)

Going proper old school today with Sybaris from Puig - delicious Chypre with a load of Patchouli and Vetiver at the base.
Truly an example of one that they just don’t make anymore.

Blind Buying.
We’ve all done it, and most of us also vow to never do it again only to find ourselves clicking that PAY NOW button late at night in the slim hope that the pretty bottle will complete our collections or finally be the one.
Anyone have any particularly memorable blind buys, whether good, bad or ugly ?

Lampblack from Fzotic , a lovely oily, slightly smoky vetiver.
Just 2 sprays earlier this morning and it’s still behaving very nicely.
Anyone else have a favourite from Fzotic ?

What’s everyone spraying today ?
Giving a decant of Speakeasy a run today.
Very pleasant rum forward boozy frag with a nice Immortelle humming away through it, as it’s drying down I’m getting a bit more tobacco and leather as well.
Very nice but not really different enough from something like 1740 for me to want to get a full bottle.
Would be a good one to try for anyone wanting a boozy scent without leaning too much into the sweet gourmand side of things.
More of a scent of the afternoon , but nonetheless still counts - Armani Eau de Cedre today , my favourite dry cedar that’s actually more of a black tea with cedar.
Smells beautiful like drinking a freshly brewed black tea out in the bush on a crisp morning.
