After reading a great deal here about the app complications and in the manual about the data collection involved, I’ve decided to explore using my car without the app before making the decision to register the car and use it. My family has been trying to find ways to lessen the data we give to the world in whatever small ways we can realistically.

It’s been only a day and a half, so I don’t have a lot of experience with the car yet. So far, there isn’t anything the app offers me that I cannot accomplish without it. I set my charging schedule in the car and am using CarPlay for maps and music.

Is anyone else taking a similar approach? Are most of you here using the app? Are there things you’ve found that made interacting with the app a positive thing for you? I do not plan to subscribe to anything in order to operate a car that I just bought for a bucket of money. That concept actually sort of infuriates me. Like, how dare they keep squeezing money from people after spending that kind of money. It’s gross.

Anyway, I’d love to hear if others are taking a similar approach or if there really are features that make SubaruConnect the better experience.

So far it’s a dream! I’m still combing through the manual and learning things. I’m hoping someone else will have learned what I’m trying to accomplish and can help me out.

As this is our first EV, I learned yesterday that it’s a lot easier to speed than I realized. In my previous car, I was able to set up an automatic alert to chime when I went over the speed limit by a certain amount. I had it set to five over. It was a game changer for me because that extra little layer of a reminder really kept me from accidentally speeding and I haven’t been pulled over in like ten years. I loved that feature.

While I appreciate the visual indicator of the speed limit sign turning red when I go over, I do miss the auditory reminder. I am still reading all the books and exploring the settings, but I haven’t found an option for that. If that isn’t a thing, that’s fine and I’ll adjust. I just want to know if I should stop looking for it because it’s not there.
