[Request] An absurd amount of mail [US]

Hi friends!

I'm leaving for what is hopefully my last segment of traveling until winter (fingers crossed), which means I am once again leaving my husband to take care of the house & our three cats. Every time I travel, he (jokingly) gripes about how much mail I receive while I'm gone, and makes a note to pile it in the most inconvenient place possible for me to find when I'm home. Truly, though, I know he enjoys having an excuse to text me and send me pictures of what I got in the mail.

So that's my request! I'm gone until mid September. During that time, I would love a truly ridiculous, overwhelming amount of mail that he'll have to sift through every day and be reminded of how much he misses me. I have a list of my interests on my profile, but please send anything and everything. Write a long message, or nothing at all! Send me a cute insect postcard or the back of a cereal box. As long as it's stamped and comes via the mailman, I want it!!

Please comment below and I'll send my address! I appreciate you so much ❤️

I'll be able to post thank-you's the second or third week of September (depending on my return flight). If you want a card back, please indicate that and include your address :)

Please write about literally whatever. I'm not picky. You don't even have to write!! But if you need a prompt please use the below for inspiration:

If you're a philatelist, what's your favorite domestic stamp? Favorite international stamp?

If you like energy drinks, please describe your favorite drink in deep detail. I haven't had an energy drink since last October and I miss them every day.

Do you have any plants/plant cuttings that you're actually just kind of over but the plant won't die? (someone please adopt one of my 19 monstera cuttings so I can have my sewing room back).

Tell me about your favorite or weirdest cousin and why they deserve that title.

Who is your favorite author? What's your favorite book by them and what's the book you recommend to people. Are they the same book?

Try to write a short sentence with your non-dominate hand (or foot if you do not have two arms to write with)

Can you do the splits? Have you ever been able to? If you can't, how many weeks of regular stretching would it take for you to get all three directions of splits?

Tell me about your grocery list for this week. What meals do you plan on making or do you just like snacking?

How many spreadsheets could you create in a week before people start noticing?

Describe a typical day in your job. The more boring, the better.

If you searched through your whole living area and car and bags and closets, what is the oldest paper receipt you think you could find? What store would it be fore?

Tell me a fact about yourself that you're always itching to tell people but it just never comes up naturally in conversation.

What's the best mailing list you've ever subscribed to?

Send me two truths and a lie and I will guess which one is the lie.

Name as many fictional insects (including Pokemon) as you can, and star which ones are your favorite.

Outgoing - Manual Postmark Fail

The letters that I failed to get hand cancelled but the stamps are still cute!

u/WastingTime1994 — 1 month ago

How to get manual postmarks

Hi stamp friends! I was sending two outgoing letters today from the US for fellow stamp lovers (one was a stamp math exchange and one was some new stamps in an envelope). Knowing the recipients would appreciate it, I used stamp math and took them to the post office to get them hand cancelled.

The clerk seemed confused when I asked for them to be "hand cancelled" so I tried "manual postmark" and "date stamp" (I was looking up tips on Reddit right before this lol). He didn't really understand what I was looking for and neither did the other clerk there. He did bring out the round date stamp and stamped it over the address of the card and asked if that was right. I said "oh usually they do it over the stamps" and he said they "just got an email about that" and they aren't allowed to place the ink over stamps. I tried to show him the USPS page about manual postmarks but he had me leave the line and the letters are being processed through the machine anyway.

I recently received some mail with manual postmarks so I'm not sure if I just missed the deadline or if I asked for the wrong thing.

My question for people who have successfully gotten this done/ other experts:

1: How do you get the hand cancellation? Is there a specific phrase or explanation that seems to work better?

2: Do you think a letter will be successfully delivered to China even though the address is now obscured with the date stamp?? That's the letter I'm most worried about but he did not give me a chance to take it back and re-do the envelope :/

[thank you] all my lovely internet friends

Got some nice mail in my mailbox this week!

Mystery User (my “precious” friend): Hello!! you changed your username so I have not been able to thank you and your sweet heart for another exchange. thank you for the super cool postcard and i hope you enjoyed your ride on your tricycle!! FOUND!! u/FunFuzzy767

u/cidavid thank you for the vintage card! i love going to secondhand stores and leaving with a pile of vintage cards for places i have never been to. i recently got one from edinburgh and the sweet lady had written notes on it of the places from the postcard that she had gone to.
You mentioned that you didn’t know if “observation car = train” but you sent the postcard anyway. I was SHOCKED that you picked this card. the day it arrived, I was actually in the river shown on the card whitewater rafting through the Gorge. i had sat in my raft and waved at the train with the observation cars going by and then i came home and found the same train in my mailbox. my mind was blown. i figured you’d appreciate hearing that!! I’m not sure how you managed to main me a card from my state from a place i was at that morning. random acts of cards works in mysterious ways!

u/um_marie_me thank you for the location postcard with all the little bug decorations!! your handwriting is so nice and pleasant to read. i would love some RUB merch, as I too love universities and learning. I have a shirt proclaiming my affinity for the California University of Management.

u/october_Surprise56 thank you for the card!! the scream is so hauntingly accurate for such a dark prompt (geez sorry for that haha). i agree that dying with regrets is the worst way to go. trying to live life to the fullest now!!

u/maladi3 thank you so much for the postcard!! i’m very happy that all of my mail made it to you, and your corny joke was very much appreciated on this “weak” day. I’ll write you back this week :)

u/ljsweenes thank you for the bob ross card and cutie decorations! i cannot believe water got into your gas tank omg?? you can’t even turn that mistake into happy little trees… i’m glad it all worked out!!

Place your bets!

I joined Postcrossing in February, and my first card was registered in May. I have been having so much fun writing and sending cards. Now that it’s July, I’m starting to think that my first incoming card will be here any week now.

Just for fun, what day do you think I’ll get my first Postcrossing card? (for bonus points, what country do you think it’ll come from?)
Your guess is as good as mine, but I thought it could be a fun game.

[Offer] Postcard & Card Destash! [US to WW]

Hi Friends! I have a crazy busy week ahead of me at work, and I'd like to spend my short breaks writing postcards rather than staring at more screens. I brought along my binder of stamps and a box full of random postcards from my collection and I'm ready to write as soon as people start claiming!

To claim: Please comment below with a fun fact about you, and then message me your address! (I'll respond to your comment once I send your card, as that's how I keep track of them). Feel free to leave a prompt as well, or you can just hear about whatever is on my mind at the moment lol.

The cards are all fairly generic - no NSFW, no religion, nothing offensive - so you can claim without worries. There are touristy cards, plain cards, upcycled cards, failed handmade cards, and fun art cards all up for grabs.

Surprise Stamp Math Incoming (office mail)

I work in an office building and it’s my job to open all the mail. I really only see flag stamps, and it’s an exciting day if I see a flower stamp (there was one spongebob stamp that I saved and clipped to my desk). These came in while I was out of office and my coworkers saved them for me because they knew I would be ecstatic!!!
someone used stamp math to tell us we had the wrong address 🥹🥹 i’ve never seen this in my years of working here and I don’t think I’ll ever see it again
