Is PWM a problem with OLED or just AMOLED?

As the title.

Is PWM a problem with OLED or just AMOLED?

If both, is one worse than the other?

My partners has a Pixel 7 with an OLED screen and this seems fine.

I am looking at an S25 Ultra which is AMOLED.

Just trying to work out if I may have an issue with the S25 before parting with a lot of money.

PWM - wait for next gen?

I was down to trying to decide between an S25 and S26 when I noticed the reviews kept mentioning PWM (Pulse Width Modulation).

Turns out this is a known problem with OLED screens, and can cause eye strain.

It is allegedly also being noticed more and more with flagship phones.

So does anyone know if there are plans to address this in future generation phones?

I read that some Chinese brands use very high frequencies to reduce the effect but Samsung in particular uses a very low frequency which makes the problem worse.

I am now wondering how to test drive and OLED phone to see if it affects me.

SIM free or contract?

Historically I have always bought SIM free because it was way cheaper than buying a contract phone.

Correct prices are making me wonder if the gap has closed.

Thoughts?

Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) - best smartphone?

A slightly different new phone request.

I have moderate AMD which means that my eyesight is moderately impaired (OK to drive, but a car not a 7.5 tonne truck) and it is predicted to get gradually worse over the next 5 years.

So my most important requirements are:

(1) Largest screen possible.

(2) Brightest screen possible.

General requirements:

NFC

Dual SIM

Familiar UI

Long term support (at least 5 years)

At least 512 GB storage

Not Apple

Obvious contenders are Samsung Galaxy Ultra and Pixel XL.

For background I have a realme 6 Pro with 256 GB of memory and a 256 GB SD card.

[Phones don't seem to do SD card support any more.]

I have been very pleased with the phone, but when 3G was switched off I found only one carrier which would support VoLTE for my phone.

Which reduces the effectiveness of Dual SIM.

I assume this was because it was not a mainstream UK brand.

I also struggle with reading the screen in strong sunlight.

My partners Pixel 7 is much better.

So I assume a more recent phone is probably better still.

If the two mainstream choices I am tending towards the Samsung, because it comes with a pen which I think will become more useful as my eyesight gets worse.

Comparisons and recommended alternatives most welcome.
