Phones to swap to that aren't apple/android

First post here so bear with me, not very knowledgeable on phones

I've had an s10+ for years and with the recent force to use Google messages, I want to swap immediately.

I don't want apple, feels like they break too easily/battery sucks and definitely don't want another Samsung if I have to use Google messaging.

I've been looking at Motorola mainly but I can't decide which would be best so finally relented and came here for recommendations

EDIT: I HAVE LOOKED AT OTHER APPS, I'm looking for one with Rcs, I don't know which ones have it! I'd rather just get a different phone since mines pretty old and has battery issues! - Google messaging also deleted a good chunk of all of my messages.

Please just recommend phones, not "Oh just keep using Google messages your stuck with it". I get it after the 5th comment.

Thinking of switching from Samsung to iPhone. Anyone else made the jump?

I've only ever owned Samsung phones, so One UI is all I know, and honestly I don't have any complaints. It's been reliable. That said, with the iPhone 17 finally getting a 120 Hz display, I'm seriously considering switching.

I already know I'd be giving up things like Good Lock and a lot of One UI's features, and I'm actually okay with that. What attracts me more is iOS's app optimization. A lot of apps just seem to be better optimized on iPhone to my knowledge, and I also slightly prefer the photos and videos that iPhones take. iOS apps are honestly the main reason I want to switch.

The thing that's making me hesitate is losing the android perks, like on my Samsung I use things like ReVanced for YouTube and YouTube Music, and if there's a paid app or game I want to try, I can install an APK. As far as I know, none of that is really possible on iOS (unless I'm mistaken, so feel free to correct me). I've also heard(saw a reel) Android is starting to restrict sideloading or making it more difficult. Is that actually true?

A couple of questions for people who have switched:

- Did you miss Android?

- Is there any equivalent to ReVanced or modded apps on iOS?

- Can you still download movies and shows onto your iPhone? like onto the device files and watch with vlc

- Overall, was the switch worth it, or did you end up going back to Android?

Thanks in advance for any answers or advice

Fold/ flip phones worth the risk?

Hi all, I’ve decided to move away from iPhone and move to android. I’ve narrowed it down to the Oppo Find X9 pro (or the 10 when it comes out in September) but recently, the N6 foldable caught my eye and I’ve fell in love with it. Would be very handy for work with the big screen etc…

My question is: is foldable/ flip phones worth the risk or am I asking for trouble?

Supposedly oppo states that this model can hold up to 600k folds. But heard fold/flip phones, if damaged the screens are really expensive to replace. I’m quite careful with phones. Dropped it maybe few times and screens are ok (on normal phones)

Looking for people who have/had fold phones (especially oppo users) and tell me the good the bad and the ugly with them. And again, is it worth the risk or am I just asking for trouble buying a fold?

Thanks.

Ios vs Android - What should i go for..

So almost all of my life i'm an android ( samsung user )

Right now im using Samsung S24 plus but before this had iphone 12

And list before these 2 phones is huge and is mostly all samsungs...

Last 2 weeks i'm having a debate with myself on daily basis of what should be my next phone

Most likely will ne getting a new one in September/October..

But untill then i'm looking to see what i should go for

Since i love androids and their abilities to do alot of stuff for free ( things you have to pay on ios to do ) i would love to stick to android

But i have a feeling that i need to give back a second chance to ios and iphones...

If i'm to update to Android it would be the S26 Ultra

If i'm to upgrade to Iphone it would be the 17 Pro Max..

So can someone that has tried both phones tell me what would be better to get ...

I know the difference on paper with what is better what phone has better what.. but like usage wise which one is better to get...

P.s battery life and capacity do matter alot to me as well

daily use phones for technologically illiterate, anti-ai users?

I've had a Pixel 7a for a while and it's genuinely the worst phone I've ever owned; I don't necessarily have a budget but I don't wanna go blowing money on just anything.

I'm not very good with technical stuff, so it's not something I'm looking for in a daily device.. I know it's basically impossible to avoid ai as a whole, but I don't want my device to push ai or focus around it.

I love the idea of a clamshell fold phone but I keep seeing all sorts of mixed reviews.. What would y'all recommend?

Buying a new phone

So I've used a google pixel 9a for maybe 6 months now and I am giving it away to a family member and buying a new one. I was thinking of getting an iphone since I miss having the typical iphone UI (last time I had an iphone was an iphone 5s) and I want 120 hz as well. So maybe the iphone 16 pro would do well or iphone 17? Also would it be considered a great upgrade especially for the phone camera? I take a lot of photos so I would want a functional camera as well both for environmental pictures but also selfies that don't look ass like it does on the pixel imo.

Budget phone between £200-£300?

I am in desperate need of a new phone as mine is not charging! I was looking at a phone but it has just gone back up £100. I'm looking for something with good storage, decent battery and a decent camera. However, I am not looking to buy any apple products because they haven't worked out for my family and I personally prefer the way a samsung works (if that makes any sense). I can probably go up £50 but thats all I am able to do.

Any options or ideas? Thank you for your time in advance.

Xiaomi 17T pro or Samsung S26

Hi! I'm considering changing phone, and I'm hesitating between a Xiaomi 17T pro and Samsung S26. It's sales here and the two are more or less the same price.

I currently have a Xiaomi 11T (old ass phone ik) and it's my first one so I don't have any experience in other brands.

I prioritize photo quality and autonomy (long life battery).

So which one should I get?

Many thanks 🙏🏻

Buying new phones yearly/bi-yearly.

This is kind of a rant, but I wonder others' perspective. I have used the same smartphone that is now 6+ years old and have had 0 issues with it. I love this phone. It takes great pictures. It has never slowed down. The battery life is great. This used to not be the case back when I owned Apple. My phone maybe lasted 3 years. Tech has changed since then, and phones are lasting longer, yet we are still seeing yearly releases of smartphones and people upgrading non-stop despite the features being nearly the exact same. Why do people do this? It costs so much money. Tech companies benefit from the yearly releases, but the consumer is not, yet they still dish out the funds or surrender to constant monthly payments to have the newest phone. I haven't asked what kind of phone someone is using in years because they all do the same thing at the end of the day... and we are pushing more and more towards companies favoring planned obsolescence and subscriptions for features that before had one-time payment to keep the money rolling in rather than adding actual new innovative and useful features. I would rather see new phones every 4 years and actually get new features and specs than to see so much effort put into yearly designs that frankly don't look much different at all and are many times ugly and different just for the sake of being different. I want to be able to use my Tech for many years before I buy new.

Struggling to decide on what phone is best for money.

Tldr at the bottom.

So I've been needing a new phone for like a month now on my current phone Poco F3 I've busted the volume down button. So the way I have been adjusting volume is by clicking volume up and sliding the volume bar down. Plus the battery has degraded. Normally I don't like getting a new phone as long as my current is working but I've given myself an excuse to buy a new phone with my current one feeling as though it is hanging on its hinges.

I'm looking for a phone with a good battery, good for viewing and streaming videos (including audio as my current earphones have started bugging out as well).

So this past week I have been looking into all types of phones

From one plus 15, Poco f8 ultra and honor magic pro 7 (though I am open to other suggestions).

Initially I was going to get the one plus but now it feels a bit dodgy with them apparently going to shut down in Europe (where I am). + Apparently the audio isn't as good (more of a side note/side issue).

Poco f8 ultra looks good on paper but I used to have the F1 which I loved was a great phone until I smashed the screen to pieces. So I automatically got the new Poco without looking into it at the time. The F3 had a lot more bloat ware and had ads on certain areas of the phone, which I did not enjoy.

With the magic pro 7 it was mainly I've never had a phone with a very good camera and I was considering maybe trying a former flagship to try it out. Also the eye care has been marketed very well (idk if the eye justifies the price), also the battery isn't as big as the other 2 phones.

Tldr: I would appreciate help finding a phone with a good battery life, good/ decent camera, good audio no bloat ware (if there is I can easily get rid of it would be fine). Honestly I don't really care about having the fastest phone I don't care if it opens YouTube or an app half a second quicker. I just want a solid reliable phone with a great battery that can last and is great to watch/view stuff on. I struggle to justify buying a new flagship as imo it doesn't feel worth it. So I am open to any suggestions/help

Thx

Is a case really needed?

Hi guys,

i bought a Oppo find x9 Pro and am struggling to find a nice case for it. In the past i always had full cases for my phones but now i wonder....is a case really necessary? Isnt it enough to buy protective glass for the screen and the camera, since the phone body seems to be strong enough and i dont care about scratches.

As long as my classes dont shatter and the phone is usable, i dont care about aesthetics.
Am i missing an essential function of cases?

Upgrading from a slow Redmi Note 10: Need a mid-ranger that stays smooth for 4+ years

Hey everyone, I’m looking to upgrade because my current phone (Redmi Note 10 5G, about 3 - 4 years old) has become incredibly slow and frustrating to use. I’d honestly keep it if it weren't for the lag, but it's getting unbearable. Storage isn't the issue, I've used 88GB out of 128GB, so I'm not running out of space.

I considered doing a factory reset, but I feel like that would only buy me a couple of extra months before I'd have to replace it anyway. So, I'd rather just change it now.

I've been looking at the Nothing Phone 4a Plus, OnePlus Nord CE5 5G, Poco X8 Pro, and a few mid range Realme models. I've watched tons of comparisons and read so many reviews that I actually feel more lost than when I started. I was leaning toward the OnePlus Nord CE5, or even CE6, but I noticed they only offer 2 years of software updates, which put me off.

Just to give you some context: I don't play games at all. My usage is pretty basic (social media, youtube, streaming, news, online shopping, and daily apps). I don't need the best camera for a mid range, I just don't want it to be worse than my current one. Battery life isn't a dealbreaker either, I'm used to charging once or twice a day, and that's fine.

My absolute top priority is longevity. I don't care about having the newest features with every update, I just want a phone that won't slow down out of nowhere after 3 or 4 years. And of course, I don't want to spend a fortune to get that.

With all that said, what phone should I actually buy? I'm open to models outside the ones I mentioned. Thanks so much for reading, and sorry for yet another post about what phone to buy.

How to remove and replace cracked screen protector?

So i have this tecno phone that has a UV cured screen protector glued to the screen. I cracked the screen protector a couple months ago, just a minor crack no big deal. However now that crack seems to be growing and even cause additional cracks on the other sides of the glass. I'm thinking of removing it and replacing it with a new screen protector. Any ideas on how i do this cleanly? Especially the UV glue part.

I want to start my first plan + upgrade my phone. Any opinions?

Right now I have a IPhone Xr(2018). It’s really breaking down on me. Im 22 and have a part time job. At the moment, Im on my Dads plan, but he has financial issues and I would like to just start my own so he can save some money, plus I can upgrade my phone myself.

The issue is that I don’t want to break the bank, but I have two concerns/needs.

- Unlimited data (Im out a lot)

- a good/decent camera. (Very nature filled vacation in August, I want to take some pictures!)

I understand this is one of those things that isn’t cheap, but I wanted to get some advice on some options I can explore. Any thoughts on providers, phones, deals, etc?

Best phone to buy under 35k - 40k? Considering Nothing Phone 3 with card offers.

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to buy a new smartphone in India with a budget between ₹35,000 and ₹40,000.

I recently came across the Nothing Phone 3, which usually retails a bit higher, but with credit card discounts, I can grab it for around ₹39,000. Before I pull the trigger, I wanted to get some expert opinions or thoughts from people who actually own it or have researched this segment.

My question:

Is the Nothing Phone 3 the absolute best choice at ₹39k, or should I look at other current options like the OnePlus Nord 6, iQOO Neo 10, or Motorola Edge 70 Pro in this exact price bracket?

Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

My priorities:

Smooth software & clean UI / Great camera performance / Solid battery for day to day use.

Good long-term software support.

Value for money.

Which phone is most reliable nowadays?

I have a Pixel 6 and was planning on upgrading to the Pixel 11, but after dealing with bootloop issues and finally being able to get back into my phone after ADB sideloading, I'm afraid it'll just happen again. I'm sort of done with Google Pixel at this point, especially seeing how it's a widespread issue, and they keep pumping out useless AI features that literally provide 0 value.

Is iPhone the most reliable phone now? They don't seem to care as much about AI, which I think is a good thing. Google is pumping out way too much AI slop.

I’m tired of this damn iPhone 14 pro max

I used to like this phone, but now I don’t. Battery degradation is freaking awful on this phone and I’m tired of it. Even if I do small things, battery percentage starts going down 1-5 percent. I’m not overloading it or anything of the sort. I’m just over this phone honestly. What phones do you guys recommend? Something that’s Samsung please. No Xiaomi or Huawei products.
