Need Advice - Overcoming the fear of starting your phd writing?

Hi everyone, I'm a phd student and now that i'm starting to have results, my supervisors asked me to start writing. I came up with a plan an they approved it, so I feel like everything is clear in my mind. I know the parts I need to write and to say in each of them.

But I just can't seem to start writing. I don't really know why but every time I open the document, I panic and can't get anything done. I think it might be related to my fear of failure, I keep thinking that whatever i write won't be good enough.

I've tried setting deadlines for myself but I feel like that actually makes things worse. Instead of motivating me, it makes me panic even more thinking I won't be able to do it in time.

SO my question is, how do you actually get yourself to start writing?

Any advice would be welcomed ! Thanks

Need advice - standard Autocad compare to Autocad Plant 3D (for P&ID)

Hi,

I am currently doing a PhD in process engineering, and I need to create a P&ID for one of my processes. I initially planned to use standard AutoCAD through my educational licence, then I discovered AutoCAD Plant 3D, which seems specifically designed for creating P&ID but it does not appear to be included in the educational access.

For someone who only needs to create a clear and technically correct P&ID, is Plant 3D really worth using, or would standard AutoCAD be sufficient?

What are the main advantages of Plant 3D compared with drawing the P&ID manually in AutoCAD? Would the extra features be useful for a research project, or are they mainly intended for larger industrial projects?

Thanks !

What software should I use to analyze data for my phd?

Hi everyone,

I'm doing a PhD (thesis) in process engineering and I had a question. I've always used Excel to process my data, and I was wondering if there wasn't a more suitable software for this, since I often have fairly heavy files (with a lot of data - process data acquisition) and the curves I need to plot are often the same for each file. My question is: should I stick with Excel, or should I switch to another software?

Thankss

Best Obsidian setup/plugins for a PhD literature review?

Hello everyone,

I am a PhD student and I would like to use Obsidian to help me write my literature review. I am totally new to Obsidian (I only know the absolute basics, like how to create a vault and link notes together).

Does anyone have any advice on how to set up or improve my Obsidian workflow to make it useful for a literature review?

Thanks in advance!
