Why are there negative connotations around toddlers?
I’m a young mum (23) to a 2.5 year old. Since I’ve had him and even before I was a mum, I noticed that there was a general negativity around having kids. For example, “you’ll ruin your life by having kids young…”, “you’ve not had time to be young etc…”. Whilst I do understand what they’re saying, I also don’t think that’s necessarily true. I don’t think it’s ruined my life, if anything it’s better. I know there are new stresses in my life, especially financially, but I really don’t understand why people make comments regarding people ruining their lives by choosing to have kids. Are lots of parents genuinely unhappy with their lives as parents?
My second point is how unfriendly society feels towards babies and kids. It feels like people respect dogs more than kids? I do love dogs, but it seems they’re more accepting of dogs than little humans. I’ve also found people to be very unempathetic towards children in public, also as if they forget they were once children too. Why do people hate kids these days? I’m curious to how others have experienced behaviour towards having kids and behaviour towards kids in general.
Tl;dr why is there so much negativity around babies and kids?
