Why do you think Pinback has never caught on with the mainstream?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not hoping for them to become the next TikTok trending band, but I am curious as to why they aren’t more popular than they are.

Personally, I think their music is objectively well made, thoughtfully arranged, and catchy to boot. They’ve been licensed for a major TV show, played on national US TV, and toured globally. So is it simply a marketing thing, poor distribution, poor promotion, something else? And it’s not like their music is cutting edge experimental jazz noise opera. It’s widely palatable indie pop rock.

Not saying Rob and Zach aren’t happy with where they’re at or that they’re not doing well but do you guys feel that their recognition matches their talent? Are WE the weird ones for enjoying their music so much or is everyone else missing out?

For Southern California BoC fans, this temple in San Diego had me thinking of Inferno. Highly recommend a visit.

Just visited the open house for the Mormon temple in San Diego and it was really uncanny, surreal, unsettling, and incredibly liminal. If you’re into esoteric rituals, religion, cults, liminal atmospheres, or even just design and architecture, this is a must visit while you still can.

Apparently the temple is super sacred and always closed to the public and even most Mormons but they’re renovating and decided to open it up for tours. I think it’s only for a few weeks and then they’ll close it indefinitely again.

It’s free, don’t have to give any info, and they weren’t pushy whatsoever, but it does get busy so you won’t be completely alone in these spaces. Still super neat IMO.

US Tour DJ or Live Band?

I’m a bit confused with the announcement of the US tour since I can’t find confirmation of whether the performance is a DJ set or some kind of live band.

During his last US tour with a live band, I recall that Simon made it very clear that he would no longer tour as a live band again, saying it wasn’t feasible anymore or something like that.

So does anyone here know what kind of touring act this will be?

Compared to most other locations, Barnsdall Theater seems a bit run down and not in the cool BOC aesthetic way. This being LA, I figured Warp would have booked one of the many old warehouses, lofts, an actual church somewhere, or somewhere more visually impactful.

The park is nice and I dig Frank Lloyd Wright’s work at that house but from what I recall the theater interior itself is very modest.

Definitely jealous of folks across the pond but it’s still a rare BOC event at the end of the day so I shouldn’t even complain.
