Why do people not like Dune Messiah?

Just finished reading it for the first time. I liked it! It was different from the first one but still very good imo.

I really like the things this book set out to do. The philosophy about power and governance i really think is wise, and I see examples of it in today's world. Plot wise, I liked how the story was about Paul being burdened and enslaved by his destiny and his sacrifice in making himself the bad guy for the better future. I like how he went blind truly and then felt free. I liked the conspiracy's idea of using Chani's death as a lever to hopefully control Muaddib instead of it being a straightforward assassination plot, although it did end very abruptly and anti climatically. I also liked the part where he starts seeing through his son's eyes, I let out an audible gasp there. Hayt/Idaho was interesting to me.

I haven't delved into why people don't like messiah to avoid spoilers but I have seen so many comments and posts about it being a generally disliked book. Idk I think this was a great sequel to the first book and although not very action heavy, it hit a lot of things I personally like (politics and scheming, philosophy).

Would love to hear from people who didn't like this book much, mostly looking for discussion on the book. Can't wait to read further into the series!

How am I doing?

I'm a 26 year old Motion Designer based in India. I started in 2021, and have been freelancing since 2024. Would love some experienced folks to give me feedback on my portfolio website, my reel (right on the front page), how it is in terms of hireability as a freelancer, and any other thoughts you guys have!

Don't know if posting a website link is against the rules or something. I thought Itd be great to get feedback on the website with the reel as well, since it's kind of a package deal.

Excited to hear your thoughts!

What's your experience with this graph?

I think I might be in the long plateau right now. Need to hear some encouraging stories about how you realised you excited the plateau. Or is this complete bullshit?

Is Analog, hand-made feel Motion Design the future in the age of AI or just us coping?

So I do believe that it is the future because it makes sense. As everything starts to look like everything else, human imperfection becomes novelty. But as a creative, I also have another voice in my head that says this is some grade-A copium.

In any case, I'm focusing all my personal projects to work towards experimentation and the hand made style that I love.

Maybe this is another AI anxiety post and I'm looking for some soothing thoughts until the computer comes for us all.

Would appreciate any and all your thoughts!
