Rant - Tired of the Discrimination!
Me and my other international friends can't be the only ones experiencing this! I'm almost done with my degree luckily but it's still so tiring having to deal with this every single time!
For context, I'm an international student at a private Malaysian uni, and this is just one of the many discriminatory incidences that have happened to me over the course of my degree life in Malaysia. We had an exam and was told to sit at different places told by the lecturer. I kept going to where the lecturer wanted me to go but up for some effing reason the lecturer keeps swarming around us thinking we're gonna copy WHEN we have no absolute record of doing that in the first place?? And they got annoyed because we're at the side farthest from the front too meaning they would have to walk around us to keep checking if we copied or not. You put us there and you're scolding us right before the exam for sitting at the place you wanted?? Open your eyes! The malay students are literally copying right in front of you! But you turn a blind eye towards them and we're the target instead??
And yes the lecturer is malay. All of them are for my medical course. We know for a fact they're not as smart as us too, but somehow when the grades come in ofcourse the malay students score higher 😂😂 No wonder the lecturers' never show us the results for any exams or any assignments.
If you're wondering why we never complaint, Well, first few semesters we've asked them for a meeting to discuss our final grades so we can understand where we went wrong. Got hit with messages saying "the results are already finalized, cannot meet". Can't even approach the dean about it either because seniors have tried and when the lecturers found out, they became an instant target and made sure their grades got even lower.
Yes it's only malays! Not malaysians! Our class have malaysian indians and malaysian chinese, but even they get affected. Ofcourse not as affected as us but my heart still goes out to them.
I'm just tired! Tired of walking around on egg shells! Tired of having to work harder to be on the lecturers' good graces! Tired of trying to always having to do my best just so I can get decent grades or even a pass when I know I deserve more than that! Especially when the malays do the bare minimum or not even that! I'm just so3 tired of faking it till I make it.... Pray for me guys. Thank you for listening to my rant 🫂
