An update on the Redwire x TCO licensing agreement

Looks like things are actually moving ahead in Taiwan for the Penguin C Mk2.5 VTOL.

According to CNA, Taiwan’s Coast Guard expects to receive all of its second-generation Penguin C Mk2.5 VTOL drones by the end of June. The contract is worth around US$7 million and was awarded in December. The drones were developed by Edge Autonomy, now part of Redwire, while Taiwan Color Optics is assembling them locally in Taiwan.

The $7 million order itself isn’t huge, but I think the important part is that this no longer looks like just a licensing agreement on paper. It looks like the program has actually moved into local assembly/production and delivery. With delivery expected to be completed by the end of June. That gives Redwire a real (indirect) foothold in Taiwan.

There are a couple of possible future opportunities here. Taiwan Color Optics/SemiLux has mentioned that the Coast Guard is expected to pursue a medium-range UAV expansion program worth around US$25 million. On top of that, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense has outlined a much larger fixed-wing VTOL UAV program for 2026–2027, with around 710 drones and an estimated value of about US$300 million.

The penguin performed well above the minimal standard set by the Taiwanese coastguard so interesting to see were this is going.
