What's the one thing you wish you would have known before homeschooling?

I know now that homeschooling can be a trial and error process, especially since we're trying to find the best fit for each of our kids. But what is the one (or two) thing you would have liked to have known before getting started with homeschool?

Sorry if this question has been posed before! I'm relatively new here and am just curious.

New and checking on etiquette

I'm new here, and I joined for a specific subreddit group, the one about beta readers. I've gotten a request to chat from someone who does not appear to follow those kinds of groups. In looking the profile, the last post was a year ago and not in any of the related groups as far as I can tell. I don't want to be rude to this person by ignoring them, but I'm not sure what I should do. If there have been no posts by this person, could someone have spoofed their account? Or is this a normal thing lurkers do to try to engage with newbies? Or do I just hit ignore and not worry about it?

I'm just trying to start off on the right foot.
