Do you usually get a discount on new gear?
Bit of a "how long is a piece of string" type question 😃
Last time I bought anything for the system was in the 1990s!
Location: Australia
Budget: AUD $10k+
I'm looking at spending around $10K+ on a couple of new components (specifics yet to be determined) in the not too distant future. There is only one decent Hi-Fi retailer in town, although I could buy over the 'net.
I notice that all the national online shops all quote the same price on the gear so wonder if discounting is unlikely/unusual.
Would you usually expect a bit of a discount off the recommended retail price in my setting - ie all pieces from the one shop?
I am not talking - legitimate - "going out of business" type sale. Just - I am a local customer - type of discount.
Does it make a difference if it's several items or one big ticket item?
I ABSOLUTELY realise that I can (and will!) ask/negotiate at the time of purchase but I am curious to know what the general opinion and experience is...
PS originally posted in /Audiophile but realise this is a more appropriate place!
