Review: Liis Forest Sounds

I ordered Liis' latest release, Forest Sounds, and wanted to leave a review :) I love this house and was super excited when I saw the announcement! Then I got nervous because of the ozone note and my bad luck with Guerlain's new L'huerre Bleu release. (Thankfully, they're nothing alike)

Review: The opening is a bit camphorous, with aeromatic green notes similar to eucalyptus or lavendar essential oils. At this stage, it reminds me a bit of Hiram Green's Arcadia, aesop's Hwyl, or even Chanel's sycamore (not that it's one to one with any of these other frags, but it has a similar profile and vibe to me).

As it dries down, it takes on more of an airy, fougere quality, like men's shaving cream, only more natural smelling. Sometimes the Yuzu peaks through the spicy woodiness and brightens things up. I agree with other reviews that this smells very humid, earthy, and atmospheric, like being in a pine forest right after a storm.

Bottom line: Smells good! I can see myself wearing this through the fall, winter, and during early spring storms :)

If you're a fan of sweet gourmands or very girly perfumes, this is absolutely not a safe blind buy. It's very different from Liis' most popular fragrances, like choux choux, of true minds, and ethereal wave. I think Forest Sounds fits really well into their line up though, it just occupies a specific niche that might not be everyone's cup of tea. I find it much more unisex than the rest of Liis' fragrances and can see people saying it's too masculine for them. And FYI: Liis does not take returns!! so don't blind buy this from their site lol. I think samples are starting to pop up on decants sites now.

Please let me know what you think if you tried this already!! I'm dieing to know what other people think and parfumo only has one review :')

Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit

Hello perfume people :)

I recently purchased a travel size of Jo Malone's seasonal re-release, Ginger Biscuit. I wanted to leave a review in case anyone else is on the hunt for a cozy, seasonal scent.

In the opening, I get spices like nutmeg, ginger, and some cinnamon. There's also a little bit of a buttery accord that smells sort of synthetic, and reminds me somewhat of Sniff's Crumb Couture. About ten minutes into the wear, the sweetness ramps up to the same level as the spice and it starts to smell pretty similar to a snickerdoodle. After 2-3 hours, i find that the sweetness and intensity of the spices die down and what remains is pleasantly clean and musky with a hint of allspice/nutmeg/ginger.

I tested this on my skin and had my husband wear it so I could guage sillage/projection. I found longevity wasnt bad. I could still smell this on my skin after a full day at work and a bike ride. Projection and sillage are intimate: I could smell this when I was sitting close to my husband 4 hours after spraying his wrist. It seems work safe to me.

Overall verdict: Smells good!

I also own a bottle of Being Frenshe's Moon Milk edp, which i often see mentioned as an affordable alternative to Ginger Biscuit. I think they're about 70% similar. To me, Moon Milk is sweeter and more lactonic, like a chai latte whereas Ginger Biscuit is dryer and spicier. I personally like the dry down on Ginger Biscuit better.

If you're looking for layering ideas, both smell really good with L'occitane's Amande Sublime hand cream :)

J-Scent Ramune

I recently picked up a sample of J-Scent’s Ramune after an OP in this sub posted fav fictional characters and matching perfumes. First of all, what a spot on pick for Usagi!! This fragrance was so surprising that I wanted to leave a review.

J-Scent’s Ramune is inspired by a Japanese soda by the same name. I haven’t had a chance to try the soda so I can’t say how closely they compare, but based on own culinary experiences I can say Ramune smells exactly like you’re chewing on a handfull of smarties. You get the chalky powder, the sugary sweetness, and a slight pucker of tartness. It dries down slightly less sweet and a little more lemony. I don’t really pick up any of the listed notes, just an extremely realistic smell of smarties!

I’m not really a gourmand aficionado, but I find this fragrance so bubbly, fun, and nostalgic! It’s really unlike any fragrance I‘ve smelled before. When I first sprayed it, I knew I’d be picking up some candy the next time I go to the grocery store. I’m still figuring out how wearable it feels for me before deciding on a full bottle.

Has anyone else tried J-Scent Ramune? I’d love to hear your thoughts :)

Orpheon edt

Orpheon edt is incredible!! This is like if the Orpheon edp immaculately conceived an edt baby with Nishane Wulong-Cha. It opens with a refreshing and zingy blend of citrus, juniper, and ginger. Within 15 minutes, the musk and wood emerge. The result is a really lovely juxtaposition of texturally soft elements against sparkles. It's very pretty and well suited for hot weather. I doubt it last more than 3 hours, but that's show biz baby.

My tray for June

The theme I'm going for is "effervescent" :) So far, i've worn Bal d'Afrique the most. Infusion d'Iris is my latest acquisition and I have a feeling it's going to turn into an obsession!

Here's the line up and short descriptions:

- A drop d'Issey: lotion and lilacs

- Byredo Bal d'Afrique edp: bergamot and nondescript pleasantness

- Aesop Aurner: spa like cedar and magnolia

- Diptyque Olène edt: freshly bloomed star jasmine and white tea

- Diptyque Fleur de Peau: waxy iris, pink pepper, and musk

- Le Labo Violette 30: barely there violet and pencil shavings

- Le Labo Fleur d'Oranger 27: the whole orange tree

- Prada Infusion d'Iris: sweet iris and aldehydic soap

Lavender, bar soapy scents

Hello perfume people :)

I'm looking for recommendations! I'm on the hunt for the perfect bar soap fragrance. I'm not looking for something that smells like a dove beauty bar. Instead, I'm looking for something that smells like the lavender bar soap you often find in hotels.

So far, Le Labo's Lavande 31 is very, very close but I find that the neroli is a little too strong and makes the perfume a bit too sharp and white floral forward for me.

I don't need a giant bottle, but my budget is ~$200.

Diptyque Olene edt

Hello perfume people:)

I made a very indulgent order from diptyque that finally arrived in the mail yesterday. I genuinely don't think I've smelled anything from this house that I don't like. All the diptyque fragrances I own only get more beautiful as I wear them. After a few wears, it's like my nose adjusts to pick up notes I never noticed on first spray.

I started searching for a jasmine perfume this spring. It's my first spring in northern california and everywhere I go, there are fences and trellaces blooming with the most fragrant star jasmine.

Olene is exactly the fragrance I was looking for: it's like a breeze carrying wafts of realistic jasmine and honeysuckle. Sometimes I find that realistic notes are beautiful, but end up being something I want to smell rather than something I want to smell like. That's not the case with Olene. It's so beautifully balanced between realism and wearability. It's a clean and effervescent jasmine, and I dont get anything indolic. It has a natural, light sweetness, kind of like tea. I also find it a little sunscreen-adjacent.

I was walking my dog yesterday and couldn't tell if I was smelling my perfume or a nearby jasmine bush... it was me :) I think I'll be wearing this all through the spring and summer.
