I have significantly less empathy for DV victims if there are children involved

I immediately have much less empathy for DV victims when I see they are standing by their abusive co-parent

I’m a woman, and there’s something incredibly upsetting and irritating about seeing mothers and fathers of children who allow their spouse to beat the shit out of their kids, then defend them.

Once you decide to have children, it’s no longer just about YOU and what YOU want, or what YOU can “handle”. You have humans who are relying on you to survive. YOU are responsible for your kids and their safety.

So I’m sorry that I will not continuously infantilize DV mothers/fathers who refuse to do better for their children. If you want to stay with an abusive partner that badly, send your children somewhere safe, or don’t have them at all!

Maybe I’m biased, because I watched my mother do the same with my brothers, but I believe this very deeply.

One thing I will gently add, there’s a difference of parents documenting and planning to leave ASAP, and consistently minimizing and excusing behavior.

That’s more what my post is about
