Walden Glove tools/Slaps

Has anyone heard from /u/walden_glove lately? I initially messaged them on June 5 and they responded and then it's been dead air ever since on my follow-up emails. I did see they had a vacation notice on the website until July 28 but now it's been 2 weeks since he's been supposedly back.

I know this isn't really the place but I assume many others have bought from them here. I'm waiting on his tools to start breaking in my new gloves.

How to do x's on the web spiral and finger lacing with 1 continuous lace?

I saw an old video from /u/dirty30tn teaching how to the X's for the web spiral and in the comments he mentioned you couldn't do it with the same lace as the finger laces. Which meant you would have 3 tie off points. The X's loop back at the thumb side of the web, one at the index, and the last one at the pink.

I see on a few brands (Teppen, Ryu, Junkei, Zett, and probably more) that they are able to do it with one continuously lace. I did notice it looks slightly different than dirty30s. From the one side both look similar and you can see 5 X's, from the other side you see 4 X's and the last run on both ends are more vertical.

This video of a Junkei shows both sides to show there are only 2 tie off points.

Here is an actually lacing video from Teppen but I can't make out how it works.

Do your gloves measure true to size?

I have a few gloves in my collection now and decided to measure them to see how they compare to each other. Just a rough center of heel to tip of index measurement but I noticed inconsistencies between two Wilson 1799s and a Wilson SP13.

Brown 1799 12.75" but measures 13"

Navy MB 1799 12.75" and measures true at 12.75"

Purple SP13 13" but measures 12.5"

Mint Marucci 12.75" and measures true at 12.75"

I went and measured the outside of the index for fun to compare and the brown 1799 measures 9" and the navy MB 1799 measures 8.75". The purple SP13 also measures 8.75". There probably isn't a full correlation between this measurement and the actual size measurement though.

The mint is my gamer and I was expecting the purple to be bigger but now it seems like it measures smaller.

Lacing questions

Hey everyone, I have a few lacing questions I thought I would just group into one post.

  1. Can you relace with the existing lace? Is there enough length to put it onto a needle and comfortably rethread it through the holes? Or will I need to get new laces? I'm planning to undo the finger laces during break in. Also, planning to reverse the heel lacing to make it more Japanese style fitting with a wider heel.

  2. Has anyone redone their laces different than stock? I'm thinking of reversing the heel lace as previously mentioned, reduce middle finger lacing to only go through the index and middle fingers like on the 1810, and on a different glove which has a Wilson style mod T web, I'm thinking of making it into a loop style mod T web (I know I'm gonna need new/longer laces for this).

Middle finger lacing for OF/larger gloves

I noticed when trying to break in 12.75"+ gloves for slowpitch, it's harder to round the base of the fingers for a bowl shape for an IF shape. I realized it is because the middle finger lacing usually found in 12.5"+ gloves for structural support. They are preventing base finger rounding unless you undo those laces first and retie them after you shape the glove.

That got me to thinking which style of middle finger lacing is preferred? There are certainly quite a few ways to do it and I thought of a new hybrid way as well.

The straight loop (1799) - goes across the fingers in a straight run from the pinky up to the index and back to the pinky

The half loop (1810) - starts at the middle finger to the index and then ends at the middle finger. I think this one allows for more shaping flexibility.

The X loop (found mostly on Marucci gloves) - same as the straight loop but you crisscross at each finger.

The Japanese loop - found mostly in Japanese gloves, the lacing comes from the finger tip lacing, comes down to the middle of the fingers and then loops back up only between the index and middle fingers.

Full run Japanese loop - a theoretical one I thought up of where you do the Japanese loop but for all the fingers.

X hybrid loop - mix of straight and x loop. starts off straight but has a single X loop between the index and middle fingers.

What do you guys prefer?

Let's talk heel hinges! (Two hinge break in's)

I've drawn up possible hinge locations on 3 common Wilson patterns.

The 1810 has a 4 lace heel with 3 laces where the hinge would go.

The 1786 has a 4 lace heel with a regular 2 laces where the heel hinge goes.

The 1799 with a wide 6 lace heel with 2 laces at the heel hinge.

I've shown 3 locations for each glove. Red being straight up from the heel opening up to the ring finger. Blue being in between both laces. Green going with as wide of a heel as possible for 1810 and connecting both laces in the 1786/1799.

Where would you be setting your heel hinges for these patterns? Where do you usually have your heel hinge go up to?
