Going to Vietnam doing a intensive Language course

I saved Money for at least half a year and will soon start my journey and a Vietnamese course in Vietnam! It will be a one on one, five times a week for 2h a day. 4 weeks.
Does anybody have advice on how to make the best out of this?
Should I start learning by myself now?

Places to forge (wedding) rings in Vietnam?

Me and my fiancé are going to be in Vietnam at the end of the year for two month. Last week I saw a video where they forged rings that they then took home with them. I thought it would be cool if we did the wedding rings ourselves and wanted to ask if anyone knows a place :)
Thanks in advance

Any experiences with this class in HCMC?

I will be in HCMC in October and wanted to do a one month intensive course (beginner). The center for teaching Vietnamese language and culture (university of social sciences and humanities) has one that would be perfect and also pretty cheap compared to others. Did anyone study here and has experienced how the class is?

[GER] Older family member in germany lost 100k in vietnamese embassy scam - what should we do now?

TL;DR:
An elderly and socially isolated relative of mine was manipulated over a long period by scammers pretending to be Vietnamese authorities and even the German Embassy in Hanoi. They accused him of involvement in drug trafficking and illegal bank accounts, threatened him with prison, used video calls with people in uniforms posing as officials, and pressured him into paying more than €100,000 in “bail”, “lawyer fees”, and other fake charges. We are now almost certain this was a highly organized scam operation and are looking for advice from anyone who has experienced something similar.

~This post was written with the help of ChatGPT because I wanted to structure everything clearly and accurately.~

An older relative of mine has almost certainly become the victim of a very sophisticated scam involving fake criminal accusations connected to Vietnam, and I’m posting here in case others have experienced something similar or have advice on what we should do next.

The scammers contacted him claiming that his identity had been used in Vietnam for drug trafficking and illegal bank account creation. Over time, different people pretended to be connected to Vietnamese authorities and even the German Embassy in Hanoi.

At some points, they also conducted video calls where individuals appeared in uniforms and presented themselves as high-ranking officials or investigators. This made the whole situation appear extremely real and intimidating to him.

They threatened him with prison, arrest, criminal prosecution, and supposedly “serious consequences” if he did not cooperate immediately. They also convinced him that the matter was highly confidential and that speaking to family members could make things worse.

Unfortunately, the victim is elderly, socially isolated, and not familiar with modern scams or international legal procedures. Because of the fear and pressure they created, he never reached out to family for help and handled everything alone.

The scammers gradually demanded more and more money for things such as:

* “bail”
* lawyer fees
* investigation costs
* document processing
* account verification

The money was transferred from Germany via Revolut to his own Vietnamese account, and from there to accounts controlled by the scammers.

At this point, the total financial loss appears to exceed €100,000.

Some major red flags we discovered afterward:

* the phone number claiming to belong to the German Embassy does not match the official embassy number
* they constantly demanded additional payments
* everything was done under extreme pressure and fear
* they discouraged him from contacting family or outside help
* the supposed legal process was never independently verifiable

We are now assuming this was an organized scam operation and are trying to:

* contact the real German Embassy in Hanoi
* notify the banks
* file police reports
* preserve all evidence and transaction records

Has anyone seen scams like this before involving Vietnam or overseas Vietnamese communities?

Any advice regarding:

* reporting,
* possible fund recovery,
* Vietnamese banking procedures,
* or identity misuse prevention

would be greatly appreciated.

Please no victim blaming. These people seem extremely organized and psychologically manipulative, and they targeted someone who was vulnerable and alone.
