Third META lawsuit begins today

Third META lawsuit begins today

30 states are suing META. This is the biggest lawsuit yet, and is basically attempting to bankrupt META by suing them for $1.4 trillion or their entire net worth.

I think this is really just an attempt to force age verification/digital ID onto people.

And, most relevantly for this sub, it’s almost impossible to see what they’ve shown META to do that every other company in existence doesn’t also do. They’re basically suing META for being a capitalist company in a capitalist society that tries to make money. They’ve shown that META tries to “addict” people and get people to use META products for longer than they should? It’s like, my God, do they not realize that every company in existence is basically trying to “addict” people”? Do they not realize that everything from TV to McDonald’s to your local restaurant to yo-yos to toy cars to video games is also trying to addict people?

It’s so stupid, especially given that I doubt that these 30 state AGs are some across the board anti-capitalists.

META lawsuit tomorrow

This is the real deal compared to the KGM “addiction” trial or the New Mexico trial.

The states are seeking a whopping $1.4 trillion in damages, in addition to attempting to force META to change various features (including forcing META to implement age verification and parental consent for teens.)

META’s total value is $1.5 trillion, so they’re seeking 93% of META’s total value.

If META loses this, that’s might be the end of anybody under 18 being allowed on Instagram or Threads. (Or being allowed on Facebook either, not that anybody under 55 uses Facebook.) Tgey might choose to just ban people under 18 from the platform rather than risk another lawsuit with such ridiculously heavy losses.

The case is being heard by Yvonne Rodgers, an Obama appointee. There’s an advisory 8 member jury, but the verdict will be solely Rodgers’ decision.

In a normal universe, this case would be laughed out of court, but this is not a normal universe.

What’s with this huge contingent of people on this sub who defend Fauci, gain of function research, and lockdowns?

I get so tired of it. Can’t they espouse their pro-Faucist opinions on, well, just about any other sub on Reddit?

This used to be the only place on Reddit where you could criticize the COVID response. Now the COVIDians are trying to also take over this sub.

And half of their comments are just “what about Trump?“ First of all, you don’t have to bring Trump into every single conversation. Second of all, why do people assume that disliking Fauci means that you like Trump?

Reminder that Muhammad is supposed to have married a 6 year old and raped her at 9

Really, it’s almost certain that neither Muhammad nor Aisha existed at all. But it’s still pretty nasty that Muslims worship a fictional person who’s supposed to have raped a child in the fictional stories about him.

All religion is bad, but I find Islam to be especially bad.

Thoughts on Fauci hearings?

With how little attention it’s getting, that seems to be a sign that Fauci’s not doing well.

He seems to be just saying nothing and pleading the 5th to every question. Which to most people is basically an admission of guilt, even if its technically not supposed to be.

Iowa Democratic governor nominee supports under-16 social media ban

This is getting so absurd. You can get a driving permit at 14 in Iowa. Yet here this guy is suggesting you should need to be 16 to go on social media. It would almost seem funny if this wasn’t an actual policy proposal that politicians are proposing.

Alas, this guy is currently the favorite to win the general election, despite Iowa being a Republican state.

Family Link on YouTube in Australia?

I heard that at one point, you couldn’t even watch YouTube videos if you were on Family Link in Australia. (As opposed to people not on Family Link, who were only prevented from having a YouTube account.)

Is this problem still around?

Elon Musk Net Worth 2013-23

Of course, his wealth has exploded into the trillions since then.

My prior thread mistitled this, so I’m reposting.
