Is there a place for LARS in 2026 and beyond?
I've been mulling this over for the past few seasons and I wonder if anyone knows if they ever kept working on artificial ligaments for knee reconstructions?
Every time a player towards the potential end of their career does an ACL (or maybe just looks like it could be in the case of J Cripps) I wonder if it'd be worth those guys getting the LARS procedure, getting back in 3 months and having one last crack.
Some clubs won't be in finals contention and maybe it seems less imperative then, but with wildcard expanding out the opportunity to play in finals, I wonder whether there could ever again be any utilisation of artificial knee reconstruction.
Does anyone know if there's anything going on in this space? Any thoughts on if it's a good idea or not in certain circumstances? Or is the LARS forever dead and for good reason?
