The Elves of Eregion made many magic rings, none of them for mortals. In the Age that has passed since those days some of their rings were kept secret, others stolen, and some were lost amid the confusion of a changing world and all the great victories and tragic defeats that come with it. But magic rings have a strange habit of not staying lost forever.
