Can I use First Edition to run Second Edition adventures?

I have a whole host of the first edition rules and books, and really love 1e. I currently have no 2e books, but I'm looking at potentially buying some of the source books such as Tales from the Lone Lands to run using 1e rules. Would it require a ton of work to use those adventures in a 1e game?

Thanks

Loremaster’s accent

Hello! I’m getting ready to start a new campaign in TOR as a Loremaster. It will be online, with players I hope to find online. I ran a shorter one (online too, but with people I already knew) a couple of years ago and it was okay, but I’m worried about one thing.

I’m not a native English speaker. I don’t really get enough practice speaking English out loud, and have what I would consider a strong accent. I can’t really do other accents either. Now, it wouldn’t really be a problem in homebrew settings in other systems, since I could always go “in this world, people talk like me, deal with it”, but this is TOR. This is Middle-Earth. This is THE British fantasy world. If the player Company meets a noble Elf-lord and he sounds like Borat, I imagine it would be quite immersion breaking.

The people I played with before assured me it was fine, but we were already friends. They wouldn’t want to hurt my feelings by telling the truth.

So, I come seeking truth from you. Would you mind a Loremaster with an accent? Have you played TOR or a similar setting-specific system with the GM or player whose accent does not really fit the setting? Was it immersion breaking? Should I take some classes / take a few months to practice my spoken word first? Honest opinions please.

"Over Hill and Under Hill" on 4 hours?

Heya!

I've asked my local ttrpg association what games they'd like to discover and they've landed on TOR, so here I am looking for a 4-hour one shot.

They're either pretty seasoned ttrpg players, or at least familiar enough to skip the first step of what an rpg is, so here I am looking for a scenario to run as a GM.

I've had my hands on the starter set for a whlle, but it says that it's more of a small campaign. I've read it through but it seems that with a good tempo it COULD work, but I wouldn't want to rush it too much.

What's the consensus on this set in terms of length for 4-5 players?

If you have other recommendations after a years of being published, I'd be happy to take a look at other midules. Thanks very much!

Light armor 5e lotr

In the pdf there is no dex restriction on light armor but in the physical book there is as +3 or +4 limit depending on the leather armor type. Which is correct?

The Fisherman's Ring - A Landmark Adventure for The One Ring

'In Eregion long ago many Elven-rings were made, magic rings as you call them, and they were, of course, of various kinds: some more potent and some less. The lesser rings were only essays in the craft before it was full-grown, and to the Elven-smiths they were but trifles – yet still to my mind dangerous for mortals.’

The Elves of Eregion made many magic rings, none of them for mortals. In the Age that has passed since those days some of their rings were kept secret, others stolen, and some were lost amid the confusion of a changing world and all the great victories and tragic defeats that come with it. But magic rings have a strange habit of not staying lost forever.

This Landmark Adventure for The One Ring will focus more on roleplaying and social skills rather than combat. I hope you enjoy it!

Big Folk in the Shire

The topic here is a bit broader than the title suggests, but I couldn't think of a short way to phrase it. Basically, how much freedom would a party of heroes have to actually explore the shire?

The Shire is portrayed in the books as fairly isolationist. Shire Hobbits sometimes go to Bree, and we can infer that Hobbits trde with their neighbors, with some contact along the borders with other people's. Their primary visitors seem to be on special occasions that might bring dwarves in, like at Bilbo's birthday party, or elves passing through (but elves can pass unseen, largely by night under starlight.) But there is the notion of bounders whose job it is to keep folks out (even if their main interest in the profession is in a prolonged pub crawl) and in general Hobbits in the interior of the shire don't strike me as having much contact outside of other Hobbits.

I am curious how to play this as a LM. This is all hypothetical, as my group hasn't started yet, but how do you run the Shire where that it retains its identity and tone while still allowing the party to explore it?

EDIT: Thank you all for your comments! Rereading the core rulebook and the Shire supplement, the game makes several references to people traveling through the East-West road through the shire, primarily dwarves, and that Hobbits are happy to let them be so long as they don't cause trouble. You all gave lots of good suggestions!

New to the system, looking for good resources.

Currently just reading through the core book. Read basically from the front cover through to the combat rules yesterday. Everything is seeming pretty straight forward so far, I'm just wondering if there are some good resources out there already for remembering some of the small details. I'm just making my own document so far, but if there are good ones already out there, I won't keep doing it.

Pub crawl

Tonight our LM will run the first of 2 one shots which is rotating around a pub crawl. The first 2 pubs are:

The Bridge Inn
A popular establishment located on the western side of the Brandywine Bridge in the Shire. It served as a vital resting spot for travelers on the Great East Road, directly bordering the region of Buckland.

The Hammer and Tong Inn
Located at Oatbarton that is run by the wife of the local blacksmith.

We will be drinking real ale to coincide with the game play. Things could get messy lol.

This is part of my idea of writing a whole pub crawl supplement with many pubs, Inns and Taverns.

Dice

I know I can use any dice and just translate the results. However. I would like a nice set of One Ring specific dice.

I have the set that comes in the starter kit. And they are fine. But, I’d like something a bit less plain. I’ve looked around and not found many options (and many are quite expensive).

What is a nice source for One Ring dice?

Is this a complicated game?

I’ve not been able to play this game yet but I own all the books (it’s a sickness). What I can see by reading the rules is that it’s quite a complex game in some ways: interlocking systems, multiple dice interpretations, asymmetric combat systems between players and monsters. Does it run smoothly when it gets to the table or do people house rule much? Thanks.

EDIT: it’s obvious I’m on roughly on the right track asking if the game is complex. Some have answered yes and explained why. Many have compared it to 5e saying that game is more complex. Complexity is relative and subjective and those who say it isn’t complex seem to do so in comparison to other systems. I look forward to giving it a go. Thanks again.

Random Dunegon? Over Hill and Under Hill

I recently walked myself through the starter set with three pregen characters in an attempt to learn the system before I run it for a group. Overall I think I got a good handle on it, but the final lair at the end of the adventure makes the odd choice of randomly rolling for what rooms you find.

While playing solo, this worked well enough, but it feels very strange to run a dungeon this way when no other location in any of the published books do this. I'm tempted to just map out the lair, hiding the more valuable rooms behind some skill checks, but I'm not sure.

Anyone who has run the adventure have any input?

EDIT: Thank you all for the input! I will probably run it as written.
