I believe she’s criminally guilty
I find the defense’s psychosis claim difficult to believe. I agree LC was very unwell mentally but I am not convinced with the defense’s (IMO frankly unsubstantiated) claim that she was in psychosis and I think she knew right from wrong when she killed her children, and is therefore criminally responsible for the murders.
In her civil suit against her healthcare providers, Lindsay claims that she heard a male voice throughout the day on Jan 24. She claims that the moment Patrick left the house, the voice commanded her to kill the children so she could then kill herself. She claims she felt a force come over her and had no control of her actions. She also claims to have said “go to god, baby” when strangling the children.
As per his testimony, Patrick comes home on Jan 24 after picking up meds/takeout and finds Lindsay on the ground. She tells him that she tried to kill herself. When he asks her where the children are, she says, “in the basement”. Wouldn’t she have said something like “they’re with god”, if she was psychotic and was being controlled by the voices telling her to kill the children?
The fact that she understood that the children’s bodies were still in the basement where she left them to die, and was able to accurately convey that to Patrick, demonstrates insight and logical thinking that is based in reality, rather than delusional thinking, and contradicts her own claim that she was psychotic and needed to obey the voice and send them to god.
Additionally, it would be more convincing that she was psychotic if she still somewhat believed that her children had gone to god and had this ongoing delusion/hallucination while she was in hospital. However, she was calm and cooperative and did not display any signs or symptoms of psychosis. She also made no mention of her children being with god at any point after being found.
I’m highly doubtful that she was in psychosis, although I can understand that’s what the defense are claiming in order to help Lindsay avoid jail and create a stronger case for their civil suit.
At the end of the day, I’m not on the jury. Just felt I could share my thoughts here, and hope that justice will be served for Cora, Dawson and Callan.
