What would happen if this Spider bit Peter Parker?
I used Claude + an MCP filesystem server to find 17GB of junk I forgot existed
Last weekend I was looking for an old invoice and ended up scrolling through hundreds of files. Random PDFs. ZIP archives. Screenshots with names like "final_final_v2.png". Half-finished projects I completely forgot about.
Instead of cleaning it manually, I connected Claude to a filesystem MCP server and gave it access to a copy of my Downloads folder.
At first I was just trying to find large files.
Then I got curious and asked:
"Can you group files that look like they belong to the same project?"
The results were surprisingly useful.
Claude found several folders related to the same ideas that I'd scattered across different locations over the years.
One was a spreadsheet tracker I started for freelance work.
Another was a small website I abandoned after building the landing page.
The funniest one was a digital product I apparently spent weeks working on and then completely forgot existed.
Looking at everything grouped felt like opening a time capsule made by a much more motivated version of myself.
I ended up deleting a lot of junk, but I also revived one project that I probably would've never found again.
The storage cleanup was nice.
Finding old work I thought was lost was the interesting part.
