Gender reveal disappointments

My husband has a young daughter from his previous marriage, we have her half time and I think of her as my own and love her dearly. Everyone I know has predicted I’m pregnant with a girl (including myself, begrudgingly), and yesterday we got blood work back and it’s indeed a girl! I couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed, I’d really hoped for a boy since we already have a girl…and my 4 yr old nephew who I’m super connected to (who also predicted girl) is already surrounded by girl cousins, I really loved the idea of him being a pseudo big brother to my son…idk I’m surprised at myself at just how disappointed I felt yesterday…there’s something much more terrifying about bringing another woman into this world and preparing her to deal with patriarchy and unconscious bias against her gender, especially looking at the political landscape of things in the US… in my mind protecting a boy and teaching him how to safely feel all his emotions seems somehow easier… this is very nuanced, I plan on unpacking it with my therapist at our next session and just wanted to share for any of those who are navigating a similar feeling of disappointment. I do not know what the future holds for our family, and of course I will love and adore this little being and help steward her into whomever she is meant to be. I imagine one day laughing and shaking my head at my past self for doubting being a girl mom. I’m open to being pleasantly surprised. Any nuggets of wisdom/insight/reflections/shares are welcome and appreciated. Thanks for reading ❤️

Gosh darn it 🤮

Hey all, started to develop debilitating nausea around week 6/7 that I struggled through for about 3 weeks (no vomitting but just feeling perpetually seasick) trying everything I could to get any relief. My doula recommended some low dose CBD gummies which worked instantly and I was able to function in my life again! Until today…I’m about to hit week 11 and today was the first time I actually puked. My husband and I road-tripped out from WA state to see family in Colorado, and this morning instead of my usual handful of nuts before getting out of bed, I let him convince me to start with a hard boiled egg. While I ate it I kind of felt yucky, and then had a couple bites of oatmeal before taking my gummy. 10/15 minutes later it’s all in the trash can at our hotel. A little while later he got me a smoothie which did seem to help and I kept it down until I got a lentil soup for lunch. I ate a little bit but still felt weird. I walked into the bathroom and was assaulted by the smell of artificial cleaning products (I was already sensitive pre-preg) and went back outside. Then we walked back to the car and I smelled cigarettes and that was it, the smoothie came up first followed by the soup. I have been sipping water since, and managed to keep two bites of plain toast down but just a bit ago puked water back up. Hubby is at the store grabbing white rice/coco water and some other things to hopefully rehab me to see our family tomorrow…all this to say: should I go to the er? It’s been nearly 24 hours since I ate anything substantial but if I can keep dinner down tonight maybe it will be fine without? I’m worried about the elevation change and dehydration…and just feeling defeated because I finally found a good solution to the nausea but now I can’t keep it down… ugh! Any insight is welcome.
