Another Lowe’s rescue, a year later

Vanda urawain belle #453, a year later from being rescued from a Lowe’s clearance. Nice looking and strong flowers, definite keeper
Still working in reducing the palm tree effect, but it will take time and definitely on the right path.

Rosulatum/mandritsara

My largest rosulatums variant from mandritsara area. From PFN, a scratch and dent sale two years ago. This is first bloom in my care, last year was repotted and did not bloom. In an 8 inch terracotta pot. Differs from standard rosulatums in several ways, goes full dormant, starts growing later, spines are different. It’s possibly a hybrid? Have nothing to compare as a mandritsara standard. Will observe for future reference.

Just when I thought I was done… they pull me back in!

Was sent on an errand to Wally World this morning and as is my custom… off I went to garden center just to make sure there were no Pachypodium Densiflorum. To my chagrin I found a new wooden rack with more Pachypodiums and I just could not leave them there in bad company. I will contact my shrink on Monday.
I draw the line at 3 full trays.

Pachypodium pollinators?

My gaggle of rosulatums seem to attract pollinators and have a few seed pods already but I have only noticed a small green spider that comes and goes and out of the flowers. Other than the spider just a few small ants and some love bugs. Have not checked after dark and I know some moths are around as some of my desert roses have been pollinated in the past. Has anyone seen pachy’s flowers being pollinated and by what insect?

Homer Depot lamerei

I had sworn to never ever buy a lamerei unless it was to graft Brevicaule (have 3 little lamerei waiting to get beheaded for that function) and 2 small ihosi lamerei to keep medium sized. Yesterday browsing through orange depot I saw 3 nice sized lamerei in2.5 gallon cans and one 3 low side branches and so, I gave in and brought it home .

Bought from Lowe’s last year on clearance and finally got some good vanda care. It is a clone, Vanda Peggy March ‘Ng Hok’ this plant came from sun bulb aka Better Gro as they are one of the orchid vendors for Lowe’s. Plant, am sure, originated In Thailand where it was grown to near blooming size and then finished off

By sunbulb in Arcadia FL greenhouse before sold to Lowe’s. Good quality flower, it’s a keeper.

A springtime favorite and one of a trio of similar jewel box clones that puts out a nice show. My pics are kind of early as a hunch more buds not opened yet, may do a follow up post when all opened. Second pic showing label with two tags is my hack to keep labels from fading away. Use =2 pencil and write on inside facing both written sides facing each other. Will never be exposed to UV light rays and keep labels safe.

Gatton Sunray is an old clone and is a great dendrobium to have, especially if you are located in very sunny temperate climate or sub tropical.

They can get very large and not easy to care for in a window sill. Am talking 5 ft tall type of big. So they can make a great hedge in sub tropical area like south Florida. They can take full blazing sun with no issue as is the plant in picture. They are heavy bloomers and keiki easily so you can multiply your stable fairy quickly.

Last picture is if a keiki that also has a spike, besides the three open spikes there are at least seven others coming on. The plant is supported upright by a tomato cage
