I’m struggling to work out how much I can actually spend

The calculators make it look fairly straightforward until I start putting my actual numbers in. I’ve got a deposit saved and a rough idea of what I can afford each month, but I’m still confused about how the Help to Buy contribution changes the maximum property price I should be looking at. I don’t want to fall in love with houses that are technically outside what I can afford. How did everyone work this out?

How are employers responding to the upfront Skilling Australians Fund levy when hiring offshore?

The Skilling Australians Fund SAF levy remains a major upfront investment for businesses, especially small to mid-sized firms looking to sponsor overseas talent. Have you noticed prospective employers being more open to sponsoring candidates who are already onshore on temporary graduate or working holiday visas first before lodging a nomination?

How do employers actually think about the sponsorship decision and what specifically tips them toward going through the process versus just continuing to look locally?

The employer perspective on sponsorship tends to be missing from most of the conversations about how to find a sponsoring employer - what makes a candidate compelling enough to justify the cost and administrative burden, whether the decision is made at HR level or by the hiring manager, what the timeline looks like from their side and what the most common reasons are for an employer who was open to sponsorship to ultimately decide against it for a specific candidate. Would love to know from people here who've been through successful sponsorship applications what they think made the employer decide to proceed and whether there was a specific moment in the process where it became clear the employer was genuinely committed.
