I stayed up til 4am the night he passed working on this. 25 min video essay, posting to YouTube soon.

I found Oliver when I was 11, right after my parents split. Didn't know a single person at my new school, and this insane looking guy on a razor scooter was somehow the thing that got me through it.

When I saw he passed, I couldn't sleep. Ended up going down a research hole that turned into ten pages of notes and eventually this video.

It's not a highlight reel or a "RIP" montage. I dug into interviews most people never watched all the way through- the Smosh interview where he explains the whole outfit came from his childhood and his parents' old ski jacket, the Logan Paul podcast where he talks about his Burning Man trip in a way I haven't seen covered anywhere, and how deliberate the "chaos" actually was as a strategy going back to when he got Thom Yorke's approval on a Radiohead cover at 19.

Made the whole thing solo- research, script, filming, editing, all of it. Posting it to YouTube soon, but wanted to share here first since this community is the reason a lot of this research even felt worth doing.

Would genuinely love your thoughts, especially if I got anything wrong or missed something obvious.

Cancelled my tickets for the tour in Boston.

Let me just start this by saying I’m a massive fan of Daniel. Been supporting his music and his other endeavors since 2021, Never Enough has been my favorite album in the past couple years and I’ve been streaming SOS nonstop.

However, I’ve never seen Daniel live before. I got tickets to see him in Boston, but I just cancelled them. The videos I’ve been seeing of the tour looks to be just screaming fans who don’t give a fuck about the artistry and just scream the popular TikTok tracks. I want to go to a Daniel Caesar concert not to take videos and post TikTok’s but to see one of my favorite and most talented vocalists and creatives I’ve been a fan of for years. But these people are taking it away from me. It also looks like he knows this and isn’t putting his all into performing.

So, hopefully he does a pop up or something in Boston in the near future, because you’re not going to see me at an arena for this tour. Love you Daniel, I’ll keep streaming your music and supporting you, but I just can’t go to this tour 😭😭✌️
