Kolibrie verhuist van omgeving

Als je een kolibrie naar een andere omgeving mag lokken, wordt het voordeel dat de kolibrie geeft dan opnieuw getriggerd?

UPDATE: this concerns the Altamira Oriole. Text: "when activated, attract 1 hummingbird to another row".

I posted a couple of days ago a guide to solving the mastermind puzzles that pop up in the game. This was triggered by a another post by u/Boring-Zucchini-8515 which was basically a cry for help on these puzzles. A screenshot showed the variation with 5 colors/columns.

In my post I tried to explain how I handle these puzzles. I think my approach is quite efficient, 5 or 6 guesses will do the trick. But is not that easy and requires some hard thinking.

My post triggered a comment by u/wylaf_Beulbe, in which a much easier albeit less efficient method was mentioned. It comes down to try out 1 color at the time, until all colors are known, and in the meantime also figure out the positions.
I tried it out, and solving a 5 color puzzle took me roughly 6 or 7 guesses on average. Not optimal for sure, but this method is so easy to understand and apply that it will make for a great solution for many players.

I will do the same as in my other post: using https://www.master-mind.dk (thanks to the Danes who made it!!), I will solve a puzzle step by step without any preparation, explain the steps, provide the results. The method speaks for itself.

Guess 1 GGGGG result 1 hit, 1 correct position
I will keep 1 green and try 4 pinks now. This will make certain how many pinks (0..4) are in the solution.

Guess 2 GPPPP result 2 hits, 2 correct positions
Okay, so 1 green and 1 pink. Since we have 2 correct positions, and one of them must be green, we can be sure that green is in position 1! Will now add 3 blues.

Guess 3 GPBBB result 3 hits, 2 correct positions
So 1 blue in the solution. Will try 2 yellows next. The shuffling becomes a bit harder now; the green and pink in positions 1 and 2 cannot be both correct, because that would mean 1 of the blues would also have be correct, and that is not the case because we got 2 correct positions, not 3. So the pink has to move.

Guess 4 GYYPB result 4 hits, 2 correct positions
So it's 1 yellow, and since we need 5 colors, also 1 red. That leaves the shuffling. Let's try:

Guess 5 GRBPY result 5 hits, 5 correct positions = the solution!

Wow, only 5 guesses... I got quite lucky with the results. The 2 correct positions after guess 2 helped a lot.

The way to go in general now is to always pick a guess that does match with all of the available results! Never submit a guess that mismatches with what you already know... If you fail to do this you will get very confusing results...
This does requires some thinking and, very important, double checking!

Anyway, I hope this helps a bit...

This post has been triggered by another post, in which the poster expressed his frustration with these puzzles. I commented but without pictures it was impossible to explain properly how I handle these puzzles. I am not claiming that my approach as described below is the best, or most efficient one. I hope it will be helpful though.

I am using: https://www.master-mind.dk, with settings 5 colors, 5 columns, and very important, allow duplicate colors.
As I am typing this, I haven't solved the puzzle yet! I will start now, explain every step, and include a picture when I am done. My goal is to solve the puzzle within 6 guesses.

My first two guesses are just to get basic info.
Guess 1 GGGPP: 3 hits, 2 positions. Likely (but not certain!) green and pink are both hits.
Guess 2 BBYYY: 1 hit, 1 position. This is good info; just one of these colors is in the solution.

From now on I will make certain that my guesses might actually match the solution.

I will include the one missing color Red; in guess 1 and 2 there are not sufficient hits in the 4 other colors. I am taking 2 greens and 1 pink, 2 of these matching the positions in guess 1. I will include 1 blue, matching a position in guess 2, and leave out yellow.
Important: before I confirm my guess I double check with the guess 1 and 2 results!

Guess 3 RBGPG: 3 hits, 3 positions.

This provides a huge amount of info!

  • Red seems correct and in correct position
  • That leaves room for just 2 more correct slots. There is no way GPG will have less than 2 hits (see guess 1) so the 1 blue must incorrect
  • That means yellow must be in the solution (see guess 2)
  • Considering guess 1 again, 2 pinks and 1 green seems likely. Maybe 3 greens is also an option, not 100% sure...

I will go for 1 red, 2 pinks, 1 green, 1 yellow. After shuffling the positions and again double checking:

Guess 4 RPGPY: (only) 3 hits, 2 positions.

WTF! This is unexpected. My reasoning after guess 3 must be wrong... Is 3 greens no pinks viable...? Let's try:

Guess 5 RGGYG: all good!!!
