New to SRCW. Asking for tips,advice to get better, and any recommendations?

So I just started playing sonic racing cross worlds this week due to the game going on sale (because $69.99 of any game is crazy to me) and me being a huge fan of the sonic IP and also had my interest peaked when I two of my other favorite IPs and series persona and evangelion were in the game I decided to get it
and as somebody who has only played sonic riders in the past for the sonic racing games, I am thoroughly enjoying this game and want to get better so that I am able to compete online. However, I am not the best online racing player and was wondering if any of you had any advice for a new player to the game and game genre.
My only real prior racing game experiences is as mentioned sonic riders on the ps2 (however I was a kid playing that game and wasn’t competitive at all) and occasionally Mario kart with my brother, as that is his favorite game of all time 🤣. So as you could probably tell, I’m not very well-versed in the genre, but I would love to improve and get better, especially with sonic racing cross worlds.
My favorite machine class as of right now is boost
I was also wondering if I could get any tips or recommendations on gadget plate set ups.
