ECT (free) vs Ketamine (6K)

I have provincial insurance in Canada. ECT is covered and will not cost me. Ketamine is not covered. I have about 2K in private insurance benefits, but the remaining 6K for Ketamine will come out of my pocket. I will have to take a loan out to pay for ketamine.

I am 51, have been on depression and anxiety medication since I was 18. Been in therapy since I was 23. I have been hospitalized twice due to suicide attempts. I work as a special education teacher, and that also brings up my PTSD due to trauma around physical and verbal abuse.

Should I take out a loan, against my husband’s wishes and try ketamine or go with ECT?

I should note, that I was EA for 12 years

am a teacher at a congregated site. I have 7 non-ambulatory students who are nonverbal and have developmental disabilities. I have 1 EA and 1 SIP (1:1).

The EA is 73 years old, forgets things and falls asleep during the day. The SIP works her but off helping with all students, when her student is not there.

When her student is there, she keeps him by the nurses station due to fragile medical conditions. This leaves me with only 1 person to do toileting. This is a 2 person job, as the lift mechanism requires to people. We have had to use a hospital bed with a mat up in the classroom to change so I, the teacher could help. This is against policy as it does not give dignity and privacy to the students.

I have spoken with admin. We have asked for extra help for when student with 1:1 comes. He is there 1 to 2 days a week from 12-2:30. The admin told us there was no help & that I should solve it.

I have asked 1:1 to keep student in the room for 15-20 minutes while toileting is done. I offered to turn off lights & turn off interactive whiteboard so there are no seizure triggers. She refuses. She doesn’t listen to me. She is in her 60s.

Both women see me a weak, claim admin take advantage of me, and fail to follow school directives. Admin treats them as special as they are from same country. Admin address them formally with Ms, but just calls me by my first name. The admin complain about policies not being followed & tell me to deal with it. They won’t address any issues.

I guess I am venting, but how do I address the sleeping and lack of ability with 1 EA as well as the SIP who doesn’t follow my directions?
