Heartbroken Car Salesperson
I am a careful automotive salesperson who always prioritizes following proper procedures. Before discussing any fees or terms with customers, I consistently check with the sales manager or used car manager and follow their instructions. I do not have the authority to independently decide or quote dealer fees.
During what appeared to be an undercover investigation by OMVIC, I was accused of misleading a consumer regarding dealer fees. Despite explaining that I was acting under management direction and had no independent authority on this matter, OMVIC held me fully responsible. They required me to complete additional training and treated the issue as entirely my fault.
This experience has significantly damaged my confidence in the fairness of the regulatory process in the automotive industry. I already struggle with depression, and this situation has made it considerably worse. I believe the process lacked proper consideration of the salesperson’s limited authority and the role of management direction.
