How much can you alter a martini before it’s not a martini?
There are a ton of “martinis” out there that i dont really consider martinis, the most popular being espresso martini and appletini. That got me wondering how far away can you get from the “original” recipe before its is just something else entirely?
Can you swap out the gin/vodka for another spirit? Can you use sweet vermouth, or maybe even some other aperitif? Or go even crazier and use a liqueur???
Personally i have landed on the idea that it must remain
- Spirit
- A relatively dry, lower abv flavor enhancer of some sort
- A garnish that can, but does not have to, add a significant amount of flavor.
