What’s a book so out of clichés & simple tropes that you can’t stop thinking about it?

I don’t really like when I can tell what the author is doing by putting a character in a certain place and time or when there’s a certain trope of character that we know everywhere.

What are truly original novels that beautifully capture the actual complexities & gray lines of real life and have unexpectedness that still feels earned? (Maybe not too experimental 😅)

The best novels on Music/Art?

Hi guys so I’m just getting into composing music and I want to read a book that honestly & beautifully explores the necessity to create, the love of the artistic pursuit, and the struggles that come along with it (especially music but shoot if you have others). This may not necessarily be the only theme in there but has to be a major one.

I also don’t want to avoid heavier subjects like making art through oppression, violence and such so you can go all out.

Finally, and these are NOT deal-breakers -- it would be really great if they’re works on classical music / flamenco / jazz / bossa. I also typically gravitate towards surreal-type imagery & slightly experimental works.
Thank you 🙏

I NEED some heavy-hitter thick books

I’ve been far from these kinds of hardcore works lately. So I’m looking for a book (fiction or narrative nonfiction) that has heart, is adventurous, touches on art, politics, the passage of time & relationships.

I want it to be more difficult, realistic enough, maybe not too plot focused, has those lush sentences (maybe even concepts) like in One Hundred Years of Solitude, can make me feel the weight of the world, and by the end just make me feel like sitting by a fire at the beach at night to observe & stare out in awe at life going through me.

Throw what you got. I will read it ASAP. Thank you 🙏
Ps. Not 2666 - saving that one ;)

How can I feel the compás on the guitar?

So I’ve been practicing simple flamenco pieces & songs for a little bit now. (Just some pop-y stuff really)…never was a musician so I wasn’t as familiar with rhythm & such…it was just a tiny hobby.

Then, I recently decided to take it more seriously and learn the different palos. But after checking those rhythms out, I simply can’t understand how you can just feel them (with all their variations) without constantly counting. You can just instinctively pause & play at the correct beats?? Like I once tried clapping along to Moraíto and this guy must’ve been practicing witchcraft…

How can I think about it and what do I do to improve?
Thanks! 🙏
