Question about Australian Vet School

I’m an American pre-vet student who submitted all my VMCAS applications last month and am awaiting responses in a few months. I have a question regarding the University of Sydney vet school. I understand that Sydney sends out offers in late October - November because their school year starts in mid-February. However, mid-February is when the American schools send out all their responses. My worry is this:

Hypothetically, if U of Sydney sends me an acceptance email, I would either have to A) accept it and move to Australia, only to find out after I get there that an American school has accepted me, but by then it’s too late, or B) I take the risk and say “no, I’m gonna wait to see if I can get into a school in my own country,” only for all the American schools to end up rejecting me. So this situation would be a pretty big gamble for me.

Has anyone else been in this predicament before? If so, how did you handle it? What did you decide to do? If you ended up going to Australia, did you have any regrets?

I would appreciate any thoughts or advice. Thanks!

Questions about UQ and U of Sydney vet schools

Hi! I’m an American pre-vet student who just graduated from university undergrad with a degree in animal science and thinking of applying to vet schools very soon. I was looking at two in Australia: University of Queensland and University of Sydney, and I was hoping to gain some information and advice from current vet students at either of those schools.

The main questions I have are mainly about the best ways to get accepted. What animal experience did you have prior to applying, what prerequisites did you take, what gpa do you need to have a good chance of getting accepted? etc. I currently have prerequisites in biology, biochem, gen chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, physiology, math, etc. and have at least a C in all of them. I’ve also worked one summer at a small animal clinic/wildlife center, one summer as a zookeeper, one summer at a mobile clinic, I’ve done two study abroad trips for exotic wildlife medicine, and am currently working at a mixed animal clinic that does small animals, large animals, and equine. My gpa is somewhat low (about 3.1 - 3.3; I had some trouble in physics and chemistry but I haven’t checked my actual gpa lately) but I have several letters of recommendation from the vets I worked with, my previous boss at the zoo, as well as two of my professors. Do you think I have a good chance of being accepted? Does anyone have any advice who’s gone through the same process? Also, does anyone know what tuition might be like for an American student?

Thanks for any advice! I appreciate it! 🙏
