For years I kept telling myself I was going through a phase or overthinking things. Then one day I was talking to another trans woman and described how I felt about girls — and she just looked at me and said "yeah, that's called being a lesbian." Something that had felt tangled and impossible to name for my entire life suddenly had a word. And the word fit perfectly. I wasn't confused. I had the right feelings the whole time.
