Thoughts on “Blood Of Your Empire”

Currently in “Hate Figure”, hearing Charlie do a Fred Durst-bit is kinda funny. Review will come later.

Can confirm the general consensus to James’ last two solo records leans toward the negative side, so it’s only fair we look into “Charlie’s work” in the same equal parts subjective and objective lens or ears for this matter.

UPDATE: Review

A common complaint I’ve seen about King of Terrors is that it’s basically just “In the Name of the Father” rearranged and repackaged throughout the entire EP. However, I can confirm that this is not the case with Blood of Your Empire. There’s a lot of variety here.

Lyrically, it’s an extension of what we’ve already heard on the EP—not an attack on God, but on men who weaponize religion or any institution for control, and on what that does to the powerless. You understand what The President is trying to say, but sometimes I wonder why he’s saying these things in the first place. Maybe a few more listens will give me more insight.

The strongest songs on the album are the ones we’ve heard before—the singles. The deep cuts can be hit or miss, depending on your subjective taste, but they’re also where the record offers the most variety.

Overall, it’s a good record. Don’t expect the whole thing to be as strong as the singles—it isn’t. It also doesn’t really paint the whole picture of why The President is here, but maybe that’s the point. Maybe he wants us to fill in the gaps.

Thoughts on “Safe Journey Home” and “Sugar Beach”

I’m not sure if this was asked before, but what’s the general consensus between these two projects? Personally, I think SJH is the better album, but my favorite songs on SB somehow I liked more than my favs in SJH. Admittedly, both albums are not my cup of tea and I tend to revisit them less than say Hope Is A Drug. What are your thoughts?

Favorites - Everyone Is My Friend, Drive, These Streets Know Me Well, Safe Journey Home, X-Man, Samo, Mosquito, Beautiful Girls Are The Loneliest (the best version of this song, I said what I said)

Losing You 2.0

Taken from Phil Gornell’s IG account, the producer of GH 2.0. I wonder what that would’ve been like. I also think Ryan Key from Yellowcard would’ve fit this song really well.
