Somebody asked which Wonder Woman villain should be in Injustice 3 on the Injustice subreddit, and we got someone suggesting Weasel. Will this nightmare never end? 😭

How much Cheetah merch do YOU own?

This art is from Wonder Woman #750 (2020). It's a cool triple-page spread, but the choices for villains is... questionable.

• Cheetah, Circe, Giganta, and Dr. Psycho all make perfect sense.
• Dr. Poison is in her Golden Age look rather than her Post-Crisis or Rebirth looks, which is ultimately fine but still strange nonetheless.
• Hercules is right behind Cheetah, unless that's supposed to be Ares? The emblem on his chest feels very Herc to me. If it is Hercules, then where the heck is Ares?
• Grail being on the art over Veronica Cale or Dr. Cyber is nuts to me, especially since Rebirth sort of cemented Cale as a big character.
• Max Lord... ugh. I can see why he was in the art considering it was around the time of WW84, but that doesn't make it any more palatable.
• The First Born is a crazy addition, especially since the New 52 had been retconned away for four years at that point. I think Jim Lee just wanted to draw cool male villains, which is annoying.
• And then there's Egg Fu... The less said, the better. I get that some people might find the character funny or whatever, but the racist history of the character can't be waved away.

If I had it my way, the ten villains on this cover would be:

2. Circe
3. Ares
4. Giganta
5. Dr. Psycho
6. Silver Swan
7. Dr. Poison
8. Veronica Cale
9. Dr. Cyber
10. Medusa

Saw this preview on Amazon... Not sure why these children's books are so insistent on using everything from the DCAU when it hasn't been a thing for decades now. 🙄

• S-Tier goes to Marston since he created Wonder Woman and most of the big villains still used today; Hummel as she was Marston's ghost writer who also created Villainy, Inc.; and Rucka's second run which firmly established Wonder Woman's current rogues gallery.
• A-Tier goes to Perez who is an overall stellar writer for Wonder Woman, but made a few missteps like creating additional identities for Cheetah and Silver Swan (which has led to feelings of inconsistency for some); and Jimenez who brought back Queen Clea and Villainy Inc, and used Circe to great effect.
• B-Tier goes to Bronze Age writers Thomas (Silver Swan's creator) and Conway (Cheetah II's creator); Rucka's first run which introduced us to Veronica Cale and used Medusa brilliantly; Orlando who clearly has a fondness for deeper cuts and revitalized Paula von Gunther; Cloonan & Conrad for their takes on Villainy, Inc. while bringing in new villains like Janus and Altuum; Wilson who came out swinging with stories featuring Ares, Giganta, and Cheetah; Messner-Loebs who at least attempted to build off Perez's run; and Heinberg who brought back a ton of Silver and Bronze Age foes who hadn't been seen for decades.
• C-Tier goes to Simone who writes a fantastic Diana but didn't put a ton of effort into her established rogues; Luke who began the tradition of focusing nearly exclusively on his own brand new villain (though he did a remarkable job with Doctor Poison); O'Neil, Sekowsky, and Pasko for a few notable characters like Doctor Cyber and Osira; Byrne for using the New Gods and Morgan le Fay instead of classic WW villains; and Robinson who did bring back Zara and Blue Snowman but also gave us a bunch of new villains nobody cares about (and Jason).
• D-Tier goes to Tamaki who was obviously brought on the title to focus on Max Lord who most of us despise (and Liar Liar, ugh); Azzarello who spent 30+ issues not using a single classic Wonder Woman villain; and King who did use some villains but was more focused on his pet characters to really highlight their coolness.
• F-Tier goes to Straczynski for his atrocious Odyssey storyline that wasn't going to use a single Wonder Woman villain until Hester stepped in; Kanigher who did bring in Circe and Angle Man, but also a host of minor villains who weren't remotely interesting and severely hindered Wonder Woman's popularity; and Finch, quite possibly the worst creator to work on Wonder Woman who once said she didn't care what villain she was gonna use, so she let her husband decide for her.
