Sinkhole at 30th Ave and 50th Street
The sinkhole at the intersection of 30th Ave and 50th Street. Despite contacting the DOT, the DEP, and Council Member Tiffany Cabán's office, and researching the fourteen closed 311 complaints over the past month, the issue remains unresolved, with complaints being passed to other departments.
The hole has expanded from the size of a quarter to over 24 inches wide and 36 inches deep, with a large cavern forming underneath. Currently, the city's only response has been a red spray-painted circle and a shifting construction barrel.
This situation has created a significant traffic hazard. The Q18 bus toward Astoria must pull into oncoming traffic to avoid the hole, prompting requests to adjust two bus stops. Furthermore, eastbound traffic toward Hobart regularly refuses to yield to westbound vehicles, resulting in severe road rage and safety concerns.
While a week of investigation is understandable, a month of inaction poses a serious liability. Any assistance to expedite this repair and ensure the structural integrity of the roadway would be greatly appreciated.
