New kitty, not eating, breathing(?)

Hi all, I am 22, living in the US and i recently(7/2/2026) got a cat from a pet rescue organization. And i have been noticing some concerning stuff! He is about 3 years old, neutered, suuuuppppeeeerrrr sweet, not all that playful or anything. Since i got him a couple days ago, i dont think he has drank water or eaten anything. If he has eaten, it hasnt been nearly enough to notice. I did see him take a couple bites when at the shelter, but I have only seen him eat like 2 treats at home. I have the same food he ate at the shelter (iams, orange bag). and i tried giving him some cheap wet food. Another thing i have noticed is his breathing. I am having a hard time figuring out if its abnormal or not. It just seems forceful sometimes to me. He doesnt do much either, sleeps mostly. Doesnt hide. He also did bite my friend really bad, and they had to go to urgent care and get on antibiotics. This seems like it was their fault, as they got excited and picked him up and overstimulated him with pets/love. I can afford vet care, but i also have like crippling health anxiety. I wanted other opinions and stuff before i made any firm decisions, especially because i am not made of money! If more info is needed please ask, and thank you for your time :')
