hot take: the current rage scene is not going to produce any superstars
i believe that the current scenes purpose isn’t mainstream/cultural takeover and is instead to set up the next generation, that is going to build off it and create something new and unique.
Sad/moody rage needs to be pushed more
While I personally enjoy the crazy abrasive loud form of rage we got from Rest in bass, Psykotic, Elc, and others, I feel like this more melancholy rage sound is really where it’s at. Songs like Lobby, Make sum noise, by Osamason and Nothing like uuu, Nosebleed, Winnie harlow by Nettspend are both examples of what i’m talking about. It’s still rage but the feeling i get from it isn’t the same as that more punk rage stuff.
I feel like this sound has more potential than the abrasive rage sound personally and is more palatable for a lot of people, and i feel like if artists like Nett and Osama leaned into it more it could really push the scene forward. But aside from it being a move that could take them higher, it just sounds more intentional in my opinion and there’s a lot more weight behind those songs, even if they’re still saying a whole lot of nothing. Not even asking them to be lyrical, but they kept the same tone of lyrics the entire song it could make it even better.
Thoughts?

XXXTENTACION will be remembered more as a moment than for his music
I see a lot of people here compare X’s death to Kurt Cobain and 2Pac when in reality, he never got to create a lasting musical legacy in the same way they were able to. Doesn’t mean his music is bad, and I don’t think the “corny” consensus around his music will be last in the way some people think it will. He’ll be a snapshot artist of the late 2010s, which I don’t think is a bad fate for his legacy. Ultimately I believe he’ll be one of those guys that future artists cite as an early influence, and I feel like a lot of artists are chasing that raw unfiltered aesthetic that he was the face of, even if they aren’t fully aware it stems from him.
