Ineos has a clear transfer strategy. Phase 1: Rebuild the attack, Phase 2: Rebuild the midfield, Phase 3: Rebuild the defense, Phase 4: Icing on the cake title charge signings.

Not to say we cannot get lucky and cliche the title earlier but this seems like building a solid foundation before applying the finishing touches.

Where's this so called squad depth Manchester United now magically have coming from? As far as I can remember it's 2 out (Casemiro and Ugarte) 2 in ( Tielemans and Santos) why do we have squad depth now but lacked it last season when nothing has changed?

Perhaps Rashford is the so called squad depth cause he's the only extra player in this squad that was not here last year and isn't replacing anyone in the squad.

Carrick has already done the double, haters are going to say it doesn't matter 😜

All jokes aside, Carrick has managed the squad really well in preseason.

Since Carrick took over he has been very good at rewarding performance instead of sticking to a favorite personnel. Amad, Cunha, Sesko, Dorgu has all treaded places in the starting 11. He must continue with this culture into the new season regardless of wages. Players need to keep earning their spot

The biggest challenge for Carrick this season will be his ability to utilize the whole squad and keep players hungry and fighting for their spot in the starting 11. I'll hate to see the favoritism culture which has lead to the downfall of previous managers return.

Can someone explain how going for targets late in the transfer window when the selling club could potentially have little time to replace the said target is supposed to make the targets cheaper? I think this is just speculation at best from ipaper

Journalist are scraping the barrel at this point.

Rashford is one of our own and as long as he puts on the United shirt we need to support him. But he needs to realize that he must earn back the trust of the fans through hardwork on the pitch. Also, I don't want to see any interview with him talking about rejecting options to stay at united.

Rashford needs to do his talking on the pitch. If he scores, great. But more than that for me personally I'm more interested in his hardwork on the pitch like tracking back, not just walking on the pitch when the team is under pressure etc.

He still has lots of time to break into the top 10 all time scorer list if he wants it!

Mason Mount is a baller, no doubt, but Mount was allowed to be great because Santos was good at his job. Santos is currently our most important midfielder because he has no cover. Mount/Tielemans/Mainoo kind of offer the same thing. We still need a 3rd midfielder a pure athletic CDM.

Signing a third midfielder is more important than signing a left back. For the left back position we have options, Shaw, Nous, Amas, even Dalot. At CDM it's only Santos and that's it. Tielemans at Villa played with either Kamara or Onana and sometimes even Lindelof in midfield to think he'll come in and all of a sudden and solves our age old CDM problem, a position he doesn't primary play would be just naive.

Also, if Mount gets injured again, which is more likely than not, then we're left with on 3 midfield options.

Squad depth as of today. Amas coming in for Injured Deligt, with Yoro at CB and Maza at RB is a honorable mention. Midfield is still weak IMO.

In a perfect world, Rashford and Zirzkee out, Watkins in. A new CDM, and a non injury prone CB would be nice.

Mount play style could arguably best be described as a #10 who likes to lead the press, this requires constant change of pace. Switch him to a deeper midfield role might be the smartest way to minimize his injury with a role that requires fewer explosive change of pace and more technicality

Whether Mount can become a very good deep lying playmaker is something we'll have to wait and see but I believe switching to a deeper role is a very smart way to manage his injury in theory.

Amorim said the same thing, I didn't believe it then, I don't believe it now. The good news is that he'll be back to us fully fit and ready for the new season.

Overall, was going to the world cup a net positive or negative for Mainoo?

Zirzkee in today's game is the same player I've watched for the past two years. It's time to sell or loan with an obligation to buy. I would rather have Rashford as a backup striker than Zirzkee.

Best case scenario both him and Rashford leaves and we sign a proper backup striker.

Gore had a great league two loan with Rotherham United where he established himself as a regular playing 34 times. I'm excited to see him in preseason, perhaps a championship loan is the next logical step or maybe he force his way into Carrick's plan as the 5th CM/DM in the squad if we sign 1 more.

Collyer is probably ahead of Gore but his spot is up for grabs. Which academy player are you must excited to see in preseason?

Tielemans came here to win trophies, he won at Leicester, he won at Villa, he'll win at Manchester United. Hopefully somewhere along his 5 years journey he can win the big one and sign off like his Belgium team mate Trossard.

He's at the theater, there's no better place to dream.

Santos is so full of humility and gratitude. He's only 22 but so much maturity. I hope he can live out his dreams at the theater of dreams.

In Santos Carrick has a student to mold into his long awaited successor at Old Trafford.

To be fair to Lammens that ball bounced right in front of him when he was already going down to catch it. It's just very very harsh and unfortunate.

Lammens will be fine.
