Peak MJ

I’m a very traditionally-minded person. As much as I appreciate MJ’s artistry, his passion for important causes, and his humanitarianism, I genuinely think he peaked as a father. He got to practice a lot of what he believed in the best by being a father to Prince, Paris, and Bigi (or as he called him, “Blanket”). Even though it was only for a short while, I’m glad he got to experience being a dad and I am sure his kids have tons of wonderful memories with him.

My idea for a Lion King Universe Reboot

Same as title.

Ever since I saw the concept art for the 2019 remake, I have been wondering what if we had a reboot of the entire franchise that was more coherent in terms of lore?

The core of this reboot are the following movies (in order of release):

  1. The Lion King
  2. The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride
  3. The Lion King’s Timon and Pumbaa
  4. The Lion Guard trilogy (TLG1, The Return of Scar, The Tree of Life)
  5. Mufasa: The Lion King
  6. Kopa: The Lost Prince

There is a spin-off TV series called “Legends of The Pride Lands” which focuses on the inner-world mythology and stories of kings and queens prior to the films, told as folktales or stories by the og cast. There will be stories about the non-lion characters too. Inspiration for the folktales can be taken from old stories and myths from Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and South African tribes.

There can be a Timon & Pumbaa series remake too, with newer stories and comedy adapted from the comics that were published in Europe about T&P’s jungle adventures with the growing Simba.

The movies will be 3D animation, but the shows can be 2D. Character design would be based on the og art style but modified to be photorealistic (not the uncanny valley style of the 2019 remake; see concept art for the same).

The music will be adapted from not only the original films’ soundtracks, but also the broadway musical and various African music styles as well.

My intent for this reboot is to make a more internally consistent, cohesive version of the TLK universe/multiverse which properly addresses stuff like the origins of the Outsiders, Scar’s iconic facial wound, the question of Kovu’s paternity, the issue with Simba’s 3 children, and several other things.

I am NOT saying that Disney should actually do this. This is just a little idea of my own. I don’t think Disney would actually consider doing this at any point either in the present or future.

Please feel free to suggest any ideas of your own and share your thoughts on this basic concept of mine.

MJ and J. R. R. Tolkien - any connection?

Something I have been wondering for a long time is if Michael read any of Tolkien’s books or if he at least heard about those stories or even watched the movies when they came out. I’d be really stoked to know what MJ had to say about Tolkien, so if there’s anyone here who knows something about this, please feel free to tell me about it in the comments.

Tolkien’s values basically reflect his traditional British, Roman Catholic beliefs (his friendship with C. S. Lewis led to the latter’s conversion from atheism to Christianity) and something he really appreciated was a quiet, simple life in your own little world… and how often one has to make massive sacrifices to defend such a world. This reminds me of Michael’s own principles regarding love, ethics, and various other things, and how he suffered for practicing things he believed in.

At the end of the LOTR book, the hobbits do not come to find the Shire safe and sound, but rather overrun by Saruman and his lackeys. They have to stage an elaborate plot and actually fight their enemies even in their own home, the place that was supposed to be their safe space… all this after the entire journey from the Shire to the Old Forest, the Barrow-Downs, Weathertop, Rivendell, Caradhras, Moria, Lórien, Isengard, Rohan, Minas Morgul, Minas Tirith, and Mount Doom. Following this, Frodo realises that he cannot fully recover from his ordeal and, after making Sam his heir, departs for the Undying Lands. This reminds me of key events in MJ’s final years.

I also feel like Michael would have been well-suited to adapt The Hobbit to film. It’s a story that has a lot of stuff that he enjoyed- whimsy, comedy, adventure, and a bit of horror as well. I also think he’d have loved the chaotic whimsy of characters like Tom Bombadil.

Unpopular Opinion - I Don’t Obsess over Bad Era That Much

Nothing much to say other than for some reason, Bad Era has never held the same fascination for me that it has for many other fans here.

People tend to fawn over MJ’s looks during the Bad era a loooooot but somehow I never did. I was more of a Dangerous era person, but as of late I have been really appreciating his Jacksons-OTW eras as well.

Are there other fans like me or am I just weird?

Helping the Environment as an MJ fan

Something I have been wondering ever since I became an MJ fan is how we are doing our part to help the planet? Since environmental issues was something that MJ spoke a lot about, I don’t see a lot of environmental drives or campaigns done by MJ fans specifically (maybe because I don’t go out that much or am not surrounded by a lot of MJ fans irl). But I do hope all of us are doing some small thing to help the environment in our own way.

Personally, I reuse and recycle as much as I can- glass jars, plastic containers, everything. I have a huge collection of these in my kitchen and I always put food in these for storage. A lot of our utensils are also quite old but good-quality material, so I don’t buy anything new (unless it breaks).

I also try to use as little water as I can, even though the place where I live has plenty of water.

How are you helping the environment as an MJ fan? It needn’t be something huge, just a small simple act.

Invincible Residency Show vs Bashir Fakeumentary

Something I have felt for years is why Michael didn’t work on an Invincible residency (NOT tour, a RESIDENCY- like the one Celine Dion did for many years, tho in MJ’s case it wouldn’t need more than a week or two) instead of agreeing to let Martin Bashir deceive him?

Who was it that introduced MJ to Bashir? Was it fair to blame Sony entirely for the poor promotion of Invincible? I’d really appreciate it if anyone who knows all the details can explain this to me.

It’s bc I feel like Michael had more to give creatively than just manage his PR (which just led to his image being destroyed even more in the end anyway), and I think he could have averted a significant personal blow to his honour by refusing to do the documentary altogether.

I’m also extremely fuzzy about all the details regarding Michael’s feud with Sony: only thing I know is that Sony wasn’t promoting Invincible as well as it should have, and Tommy Motola (Sony CEI if I remember correctly) was a horrible person. That’s all I know.

My MJ Pinterest board (pay attention to the title)

MJ’s most iconic nickname might be “Applehead”. I once theorised that if he ever got a tattoo, one possible idea would be a funny drawing of him but with an apple for his head.

This is one of my many whacky nicknames for him; do you guys have any of your own?

Collage Idea for my room

I picked some of my favourite MJ photos to make this collage. I want to put this in my room someday. What do you think?

I spent a lot of time deciding on which pics to add… I also settled on 9 pics because I felt it would be less cluttered that way. I also liked the idea of the colours matching up vs contrasting.
