Why is "Retrovertigo" Patton's go-to Bungle track across projects lately? (Mondo Cane, Avett Brothers) 🤔
Hey everyone, I've been thinking lately about how “Retrovertigo” seems to hold a very special place in Mike Patton’s setlists and collaborative projects, especially in recent years.
• He incorporated it into Mondo Cane setlists back in 2019 (in Italy), and more recently in Mexico with Mariachi Gama 1000.
• He performed it live on tour with The Avett Brothers (AVTT/PTTN).
It remains one of the few California-era tracks he continually chooses to reinterpret lately across vastly different genres and musical formats.Even though Trevor Dunn originally wrote the song, Patton seems to have a deep connection with its melody and structure. It fits seamlessly whether backed by an orchestra, a folk acoustic lineup, or a mariachi ensemble.
What do you all think?
Why do you think he has chosen to revisit this specific song so much lately? Does it hold a particular sentimental or vocal value for Patton compared to other Mr. Bungle material?
